This guide is based on the original NES Nintendo game The Legend of Zelda 2: Link's Adventure. This game was also released on the Gamecube and GameBoy advance. It is also available for the Nintendo Wii Virtual Console.
How To Get To Parapa Palace
At the beginning of the game you'll see princess Zelda asleep inside of the main palace. Head out to the east. After you exit, you'll see a path heading towards the east. Stay on the path if you want to avoid the over world enemies that pop up. Once you get towards the end of the path going east, keep heading east until you see a cave entrance in the rocks. Go into the cave.
Since you don't have the candle yet, the cave will be dark inside. Look towards the very bottom of the rock and you'll see the shadow of an enemy. Kneel down and strike your sword to defeat him. Continue through the dark cave until you exit.
Outside you'll see nothing but desert. Head towards the north east. There will be over world enemies pop up and you may have to have some fights before you get to the palace. Just head north east from the cave exit and you'll see a white building that kind of looks like the United States white house. This is first palace, the Parapa Palace.
Parapa Palace Walkthrough
After you enter the palace head to the east, this is the only direction you can go. After heading all the way east you'll see a elevator. Take the elevator down. Go all the way as far as you can down on the elevator. Go west after getting off of the elevator. Defeat the Bot and Stalfos enemies. To defeat the Stalfos enemies just jump up and strike your sword through the Stalfos as you come down. Keep going west and you'll eventually see a key. Strike the key with your sword to obtain it. You can press the start button to look at the menu, to see how many keys you have at any time.
Go back east to the elevator. When you get to the elevator, continue heading east. When you keep going right you'll see a locked door. Just walk up and touch the door and it will automatically unlock. You'll come to another elevator, but don't go down it yet. There is a locked door in this area and you don't have another key yet. Continue heading east. You'll see another elevator. Keep going east past it and there will be a fairy in this room. At this point you will probably need to fill your life back up, so jump up and touch the fairy. It will refill your life back up.
Head back to the elevator right next to the fairy room. Go up on the elevator. Once you go up, exit off of it to the right and continue going east. After you jump up a set of big blocks, you'll see a key. Grab this key and keep going east. At the end of the path you'll need to fight a Cyclopse. Get through the clubs he is throwing and get close to him. Keep striking your sword at him until he is defeated. As long as you are close to him, the clubs he is throwing shouldn't hurt you. Pick up the key after you defeat him.
Notice the statue at the very end of the room towards the east. Strike your sword at the statue to get a potion. Go back west and get on the elevator. Go down. On this screen do not continue going down yet. Instead head back to the west and go to the other elevator you passed and didn't go down. After you go west and to the other elevator, head down. The only direction you can now go is west. As your going west be careful of the skulls. You cannot defeat them, you can only stun them with your sword. Try to avoid them and continue heading west.
In this next room you'll go over a bridge that is destroyed while you walk over it. Just keep heading west and you'll make it safe. There is an experience bag on the bridge. You can get it, if you strike it real quick and continue heading west. As you keep heading west you'll eventually meet another Cyclopse. Defeat him and continue west. You'll encounter an Iron Knuckle right before the locked door. Use the same strategy you used to kill the Stalfos on the Iron Knuckle. Go through the locked door and get the accessory, the candle. The candle will automatically light up dark caves throughout the game.
Head back to the east, and jump on the elevator. Head east again to the next elevator next to the fairy room. This time go down the elevator. Once you go down head to the east. You'll have to battle another Iron Knuckle and Stalfos. You'll encounter another locked door and a Cyclopse enemy. Unlock the door and defeat the Cyclopse. Keep heading east and you'll have defeat yet another Iron Knuckle. Keep going east and you'll see a curtain at the top of the room. This is the boss room.
Parapa Palace Boss: Horsehead
If you have the shield spell (obtained from the Rauru town), go ahead and cast it. You know the spell works because Link's clothes will turn from green to red. The screen will also flash. Horsehead moves around slow and has a club in his hand. Horsehead will only strike with his club if you get close. Jump up and strike the only vulnerable spot, his head. After you strike his head, jump back from him to avoid getting hit. Keep striking his head until you defeat him. Pick up the key he leaves behind and head east through the locked door.
Keep going east until you see the statues. Link will automatically put in a crystal, in the middle statue, just by walking up to it. Your experience points will blast up until you can choose to add a level to your life, magic or sword.
This completes the first palace in The Legend Of Zelda II The Adventure of Link.
