For those of us who grew up in the 90's the phrase “Groovy” had a particular connotation. It involved an earthworm, a super-powered suit and a cow. You youngsters out there have no clue what I'm talking about but if you go to Wikipedia and look up Earthworm Jim you'll find one of the most original video game titles ever created. After two successful games for the Sega Genesis and the Super Nintendo the bizarre franchise quietly faded into obscurity. Occasionally you would hear the whisperings of a sequel in the works but it would be followed a few months later by the confirmation that the game had been canceled.
If you're one of the loyal fans that has the entire cartoon series on VHS, knows that the theme song to the Evil the Cat level, and knows who Doug Tennapel is I have good news. Interplay recently announced that it has begun work on Earthworm Jim 4 and has teamed up with the original creator of the series Tennapel to work on the project as well as other media titles in the future. The other media titles in question are rumored to be an "animated series and feature film to expand the well-known brand." Unfortunately, in years past the well known brand has become a bit of a
relic and hopefully all upcoming projects won't sink into obscurity
like the previous attempts to reignite Jim's popularity.
If you don't know who Doug Tennapel is it's strongly advised that you head to your local comic book shop or used book store and look for his graphic novel called “Creature Tech”. With a brilliant mix of sharp wit and creativity Tennapel is one of the most original artists out there.
Interplay did not announce what titles the game would be released on or when but if the project is not canceled you will hear a collective “Moo” of content rise from the gaming world.
