Classic Sega Genesis Games: Road Rash Three

Road Rash Three for Saga.

Any one who played Road Rash 3 will remember this game. Obviously it being the third installment of the Road Rash games for Sega it had to be popular just look at other series like the NES Zelda series which only saw two games on one platform, making a third game in one series on a platform is an accomplishment especially when it is a new series to that platform. So what made the Road Rash series worthy of three games for one system and what made Road Rash so different from the other two games of the series?

If you never played Road Rash 3 it was a racing game but unlike most racing games you raced your motorcycle and unlike the few motorcycle race games like Excitebike on the NES this was not a BMX style racing game. Road Rash was a lot like the NES Rad Racer but better graphics and on motorcycles; it even had the same initials as Rad Racer. What makes this game so much better then any racing game is not just that you race on motorcycles but what you get to do on those motorcycles.

The best part of the game was not the racing if you liked it for that you could have bought or rented a ton of other games some of which might have offered a better racing experience for you but the real value to the Road Rash games is what you do while you are racing and not the races themselves. Road Rash has no rules sure cops can come and give you tickets which is annoying but you are illegally street racing that just how it is. The best part of the game is beating up the other guy and making him lose because you knocked him off his bike. Anyone could hit or kick but if someone had a weapon and you grabbed it from them it was yours until you lost it. By far the best weapon in the game was the cowtaser. Not only was it the most effective way to take out your competition but it also was cool to see the other guy get electrocuted what other game besides maybe Mortal Kombat could you see someone get electrocuted?

Besides being a racing game it was a little like an RPG in that you could race low level races and get easy cash like RPG games where you fight easy enemies for easy money or experience and you could use it to improve your bike the longer you played the better you would do because you would be able to get more money and upgrade your bike so even bad players could eventually have such a good bike and weapons they could win the game.

If you have a copy lying around even if its not a cartridge but a rom or even the PC port you should get a friend and play it because playing this game with a friend is the best way to go.
