Call Of Juarez

When parental quarrels turn into a tragedy. Should a family kill each others?

Family Tragedy

The impulsive Billy, weary with parental quarrels, in particular with his step-father. After a violent bust-up with his stepfather Billy flees from his family ranch. And sets out on a journey across the United States in the hope that fortune will smile upon him one day and give him the chance to show his true worth. After two years roaming the land, he decides to return to the family ranch. However his big homecoming quickly turns into a real nightmare.

The day of his return, gunshots are heard at the ranch from as far away as the neighboring town. One of the town’s inhabitants informs the Reverend Ray, the brother of Billy’s stepfather. Today, Ray is a Reverend, but his face tells the tale of his darker hours. At the farm, the Pastor discovers the bodies of his brother and wife and then spots Billy, bloodied whip in hand, standing by a wall daubed with the words ‘’Call of Juarez’’, written in blood. The young man notices the Reverend and flees in a panic.

Ray was well aware of the quarrels between his brother and Billy and figures out that the stepson must have killed the couple in a fit of anger. He vows to avenge the death of his brother and sister in law, and sets out in pursuit of Billy. In the course of his pitiless chase, he chooses to become once more what he was several years previously: a fearsome and bloodthirsty killer. Convinced he is the instrument of God’s wrath, he totes his Bible like his Colt.

Game Play

Call of Juarez is inspired from the greatest movies of the Western genre. It is the first 'serious' and the most realistic adaptation of the genre. Developed by Techland Studio, the game draws on the major themes of the American Wild West through confrontation between the two principal emblematic characters

The original scenario is loosely based on a number of Western movie hits from the seventies and eighties. Players will choose to play as either one of two different characters: Billy, a young fugitive accused of murder, or the merciless vigilante hunting him down, the Reverend Ray, an ex-outlaw who turned to religion, believing that God Himself has chosen Ray to be the instrument of His wrath.

Call of Juarez has a special game mode based on all the best Westerns. With his shooters holstered, when the player draws his guns in the face of the enemy, he triggers slow-motion “Bullet Time” which symbolizes the advantage for seasoned quick shooters over adversaries. When the game goes into slow motion, we can shoot several times at our opponents. The second mode is handy for shooting at a distance and the player benefits from sharper vision, improving his aim when shooting.

Techland Studio has created a real arsenal of faithfully reproduced period weapons. We can use Colt six-shooters, like the Frontier, the Peacemaker, the Walker or the Schofield. Each Colt is available in different forms. The developers have also reproduced the classic Winchester M68 and the famous Remington rifle, which also come in sawn-off versions.

We can also use other weapons like bows and arrows, tomahawks, knives and, of course, the whip, which plays a very important part in the game.

What would a Western be without horses? Not much... For this reason, horseback chases and battles, as well as stunning rides through vast, beautiful settings are extremely important in Call of Juarez. Horses in Call of Juarez are not just a way of getting around like in other FPS games; they influence the gameplay in many different ways and also appear as real characters with their own moods and cheeky personalities. Players will have to learn to improve their riding skills throughout the course of the game.
