Warrock Review

A review concerning the quickly rising FPS Warrock. It is an informative description of the game's ups and downs.

Overview

It seems to be a pretty standard FPS, but considering that it's FTP it's pretty good. However, it has many glitches and a large population of hackers. Also when it goes retail (February '07) I expect it to decline. It is decent yes, but currently the aforementioned hackers and glitches outweigh its strong points. I don't believe that it will be ready to go retail at the original date unless the dev team is able to fix most of the major glitches in a short time, and implement a better hack-prevention system.

Weapons

Warrock currently has a decent amount of weapons (16) and has a number more already coded and in it's folders. However in a statement made by a K2 employee, “All weapons currently in the game are the Base weapons and no more will be released until Retail. Any new weapons will be Premium only, that means F2P accounts will not have access to them.” So all new weapons will be accessible only by Premium players. I normally wouldn't make a big note of this, except for two facts. The first of which is, on their official website it says “-will start with Gold Premium membership for a month-” under their Q/A page for buying the retail version, leading me to believe it will be a monthly membership. Also that FTP players will be getting no updates in weaponry at all, ever.

Graphics

The graphics in Warrock are fairly solid and don't put a strain on lower-end computers, as was intended. They're nothing fantastic compared to other recent games, but there's nothing wrong with them, and I have no real complaint. With higher-end computers it runs quite fast, and smoothly.

Game play

Probably the most important part in any game is the game play, and Warrock has a slightly above-average game play. The controls are easy to learn and use, and work quite smoothly. However, there is what is probably Warrock's biggest problem, glitches. In many maps there holes which you can crawl into and come out at completely different places, if you empty your clip and roll, you'll come up with it refilled, occasionally if you throw a grenade and it hits your teammate, it will stick to them, and go off at a later time, if you stand next to a wall, and someone's on the other side the can see your feet or elbows sticking out of the wall. While that last might help partly to prevent camping, I'm sure it wasn't intentional. However even with the glitches, I would say that, overall Warrock's game play is quite solid and good for its type of game.
