Every single year, without exception, we are treated to a multitude of top quality video games by various game design studios. Unfortunately, we're also given a variety of really, really overrated games, which we only discover after we've paid for them and opened them, which means we've voided the return policy. We're then stuck with them, or have to trade them in for far less than we paid for them. With that in mind, I believed it would be beneficial for interested parties to see my 3 most overrated games of the year for the Playstation 3, 2008. Please be aware that these are the most overrated games of 2008 on the Playstation 3 in my opinion, but they aren't necessarily PS3 exclusive.
Tom Clancy's Endwar
This is a game which had so, so much potential. It was meant to be the game that brought the end to gimmicky voice control, that allowed you to game at the speed of thought. Unfortunately, the voice control was more gimmicky that most games that proceeded it. If it takes 5 seconds to say "Unit-1-attack-Foxtrot", you have a major problem giving orders. Another problem with the game is that it is an RTS. Don't get me wrong, I love RTS games, but they really do belong on PCs. There is too much involved in great RTS games to fit all the controls onto a simple PS3 controller.
Devil May Cry 4
I wasn't a particularly big fan of Devil May Cry games ever, but it seems they have some sort of numeric course. If the game ends in an even number, it is a terrible game. It seems odd really. Ignoring the fact that Devil May Cry 4 didn't do much to expand on the previous installment (Devil May Cry 3 was great, but on the PS2), there was one major problem. The second half of the game, which was played with a different character, was simply performing the first half of the game in reverse. You know the developers were lazy when that is the case.
Haze
Haze was meant to be the game to re-invigorate the Playstation 3. Unfortunately for Playstation 3 owners, it just became the laughing stock of the gaming industry. The game had so much potential, and with good reason. It was designed by the makers of Goldeneye and Perfect Zero, and it seemed to have a pretty solid storyline. As is the case with many failures though, these positive elements and attributes didn't translate into a good game. Fortunately, this game was quickly forgotten and replaced by the likes of Metal Gear Solid 4 and Resistance 2.
