Well, trying the game with the classic controller, took some time to get into. A drawback is the Z button, quite hard to reach. The only thing is that Z is used for throws, which are very important at close range or while fighting over a Final Smash. The Wiimote only feature was neat, but not recommended. The reasons: 1 and 2 buttons are flanky, B buttion is hard to grasp under the Wiimote for shield, and - and + buttons hard to hit.
As for new characters, Sonic was my initial favourite. He controls great powers, like superspeed, and homing in on opponents with spin attack, which is always cool. The first battle was between Sonic and Mario, which were very evenly matched. Which Mario winning after obtaining Final Smash. Here are some recommended rookie's characters: Ike (slow yet powerful), Link (range+melee), Snake (avoidability+speed+range).
Final Smashes are a fantastic addition. During a two-minute match, a Smash Ball appears about 3 times. Its appearance causes instant chaos as to whom will OWN with it. These attacks almost always result in at least one KO (usually more). However, a skilled player can avoid a Final Smash. For instance, an online game between an IGN staff and another pro faced off. The IGN'er dodged Sonic's deadly flybys Final Smash with a series of well expertly refined midair dodges that were obviously timed to make it a success!
And Assist Trophies! They are amazing! I was run over by mini Advanced War tanks, giant Metroids sucked our brains out, Hammer Bros got a beating, and Yoshi eggs pelted the arena!
Also a couple of other quick things: Thrown items are easier to catch than in Melee, and it's now it's possible to jump between performing an air dodge and landing.
Brawl is just as mind blowingly amazing as I thought!
