Top Six Mods For Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

Six awesome mods for the PC game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was one of the top-selling games ever when it was released and made it to become the Game of the Year. Even today a massive following and fan community keep the game alive.

At the heart of this community is a virtual army of fans who add content to the game, known to most as modders. With their content posted on sites all over the web, there are enough mods out there to make certain no two people have the same gaming experience.

So, here's a list of the top mods that I've added to my game that seem to really enhance the game play.

  1. Holowan Conversion Pack

At the top of the list is the Holowan Conversion Pack. This is in itself about 10 different mods, any number of which can be added to the game to change the experience slightly. Some of the better ones include the Level-Up Mod and the Enemy Difficulty Mod.

The Level-Up Mod changes how you level up each time. With this mod,it takes longer to level up but you receive more feats and skill points each time you do. There's still more than enough time to reach the top level - level 20 - in the game, but this time when you get there you have more skills and feats to play with.

The Enemy Dificulty Mod allows the enemy soldiers to level up (though at a much lower rate) as you do. This increases the difficulty of the battles and adds a little more challenge to the game as you get to the higher levels.

Also included in this mod is the Skip the Endar Spire Mod. Though I don't personally use it, for those who are tired of playing through the tutorial, this one can be a bonus.
  2. Kamino Genetic Enhancement Chamber

Many people might consider this one cheating, but I think it's fair. This mod places the Kamino Eugenics Chamber in the Ebon Hawk, and for ridiculous amounts of money you can enhance your character to inhuman levels of power. Yet even with this mod, you're not invincible. Plus, you either have to be really, really good at Pazzak or be really late in the game to use this mod to its fullest, as it takes something like 100,000 credits for the top upgrades.
  3. Republic Clone Trooper Armor

Republic Clone Trooper Armor is a very basic mod. Remember all those dead Republic soldiers on the Endar Spire and in the underwater base on Manaan? Now, they all have clone trooper armor and a clone trooper rifle on them that you can loot.

First of all, this stuff is just cool. The armor is pretty nice stuff, especially early-game. The rifles get outdated fairly quickly, but for a while Carth Onasi and the rest of the rifle gang can use these big guns and pack a nice punch.

Also, this armor sells very well on the outpost at Yavin. Everyone who's abused this poor guy knows that he pays through the teeth for everything you have, and this armor is no exception. This is a way to rack up the money you need to get that top level enhancement at the Kamino Eugenics Chamber.
  4. ORD Mantell Mod

This is a very impressive mod - it adds an entire planet to the game! Complete with 5 different locations and lots of really tough bad guys, this is a planet not to be tread upon lightly. It will provide a good challenge for those who want to fight someone tough and gives a few healthy rewards - though nothing that would tip the balance of the game and make you superman.

A warning: This planet is very, very tough. Don't go there early game or you will get wrecked, no matter how good you are.
  5. Tatooine Jawa Shop

Like ORD Mantell, this mod adds a tough challenge to the game. This time it's on Tatooine, in the city of Anchorhead. Now in the city you'll find a shop with two Jawa salesmen inside. One will provide you with some very powerful items, and the other will hand you a quest: Clear the sewers of dangerous thugs who he owes money to. These guys - mostly Trandoshan warriors - are not easy to bring down. Yet they have incredible rewards to give if you can bring them down. They all possess powerful weapons which can tear down opponents or be sold for large sums of money on Yavin or elsewhere.
  6. Silver Lightsabers

This one adds almost nothing to the game except personal satisfaction. Silver lightsabers are just cool! In various places you will find a silver saber or silver saber crystal, and they just look better than the traditional blue, green, and yellow in my opinion.

These mods will change the face of your Knights game, but they'll add a nice, new flair to it and hopefully add a few new challenges as well.

Good luck, and may the Force be with you!
