Star Fox the game is considered to be one of the worst of all the Atari games. Star Fox has little to do with the later NES Star Fox franchise. Both Star Fox games have the name Star Fox and both involve spacecraft. The trademark of the name Star Fox was not filed in the U.S. but the company had filed for it in Europe and so Nintendo released their Star Fox game in Europe as Starwing though they still use the name of the character Star Fox because only the title of the game was trademarked. For Star Fox 64 the European version was named Lylat Wars. Nintendo was able to obtain the trademark for Star Fox as a title later and now uses the name Star Fox in the US as well as Europe.
The games premise is that you are in the year 4024 and trying to save a valuable crashed freighter from being stolen by the enemy. The crystals must be valuable because they send so many ships after you to stop you from rescuing the shipment. The game is a typical space shooter game but it is not a particularly good space shooter.
