Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory Review

Alright, this is a review for Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, the third game in the splinter cell series. To start of I would like to say that this is one of the greatest games I have ever played. The Splinter Cell series is the series that has made Ubioft so successful. The original game for Xbox created by Ubisoft Montreal was highly anticipated and regarded as "The game that showed up Metal Gear". Two games later Splinter Cell is still going strong and boy did they get it good on this one.

Situated in 2007, Sam Fisher, a stealthy splinter cell working for the NSA is tying up some lose ends from the original game. But these loose ends end up tying together to reveal a plot to throw the world into war. Armed With the latest in gadgets, weaponry, and stealth skills you have prevent world war three for the third time.

Presentation: 10/10

this game is very well polished and you can see they have put allot of time and effort into this title. The menus are great and they added a nice touch with tutorial video narrated by the Voice of Sam Fisher, Michael Ironside. All of these nice touches work very well to polish up the game and give a great presentation

Graphics: 10/10

Ubisoft has done it again in this title as they have done in the past 2; the graphics are cutting edge with details that change our ideas of good graphics. This game looks fantastic every aspect is amazing

Sound: 10/10

this game has a phenomenal sound track and sound effect to let you know if you’re detected. Music composed by Amon Tobin and Jesper Kyd (hitman) they have great tracks for different situation for all levels. Fantastic!

Gameplay: 10/10

this is where Chaos Theory shines... then again Chaos theory shines everywhere. This game is phenomenal in that you can take several paths to complete levels. With primary, secondary opportunity and bonus objectives you have plenty to do and you can do it however you like. This title unlike the previous two, with the introduction of a combat knife, allows you to go about your business however you like, be it action, stealth, a mixture. You rifle now comes with attachment for launching items, accurate firing, sniping and yes... A shot gun! This truly embodies your freedom to do what you want. And the great controls mean you aren’t going to have any problems. With ten huge levels with a ton of objectives, an arsenal of new and favorite gadgets as well and moves like split jumps, neck snaps and instant Ko or Kill moves This game is incredibly fun and will have you going for hours and hours.

Replay: 9 .5/10

With ten levels, a load of objectives, and huge multipath levels you can get a ton of replay out of this game. But in order for this to be perfect it has to be like GTA or hitman.

Multiplayer: 10/10

this game has it all, a brilliant Solo mode, versus mode brought back from Pandora Tomorrow and the new Co - op mode. The multiplayer mode is a ton of fun. It is Spies vs. mercenaries. The spies are stealthy quick and loaded with gadgets. They infiltrate locations avoiding security, locate their objectives and complete them. Very skillful and fun. Mean while the mercs are guarding the location, heavily arms and are trying to track down the Spies. This is executed very well over Xbox live and is really fun. Both characters are equipped accordingly to make this as fair and fun as it cane be. Marcs have frag grenades, Spies have temporary cloaking. Mean while Co - op is like the solo mode... but now you have a partner. Your both well equipped and trained as together you infiltrated a nest of terrorists and complete objectives. To have cooperative moves like using the other as a human ladder and you can launch your partner at a guard disabling him. All of this comes off really well and is executed perfectly. This was a fantastic addition.

Miscellaneous: This game even has humor in it to lighten the mood a bit...a nice touch. Here are a couple:

Sam: Sounds like your setting me up for another blind date.
Grim: The Maria Narcissa's a boat!
Sam: So was the last girl you set me up with.
Grim: Fisher!
Sam: sorry.

Sam (Grabing a guy in a Japanese Tes house): Bad news
Guard: Agh! I knew it! I knew there were ninjas around here!
Sam: What?
Guard: Yeah, you've gotta be a ninja. How else could you sneak up and grab me like that?
Sam: Listen, I don't know what --
Guard: Wow! A real, live, ninja! I can't believe it!
Sam: Listen Im going to kill you if --
Guard: Wow! Killed by a ninja... Cool!

Overall: 9.9/10

this game is phenomenal, it is a reason to own an Xbox (no where near as good on other consoles) It has great graphics and sounds as well as gameplay and multiplayer. This game has everything, amazing fun solo mode, versus, co op, online stuff. id give this game a 10/10, but being a stealth genre game, you have to be patient or good, so some people don’t like stealth games. Needless to say, just because some people don’t like the genre its still an amazing game that does everything right.

Hits:

• Fantastic graphics and sound
• Great, huge, long, levels with a ton of enemies’ paths and objective.
• Very well designed multiplayer modes

Misses:

• Trial and error gameplay can get frustrating if you’re new
• The plot sort of makes sense, but its essentially 10 missions strung together with a thin Tom Clancy style plot crammed with a lot of political babble
• umm... I can’t think of anything else... go get it!
