Soul Edge (Blade)
This is the game that first introduced Mi-Na and Hwang to the world. She was only just sweet sixteen while he was a robust twenty-five old. She epitomizes the perkiness and playfulness of her youth while he was solemn and serious. Both are proud and patriotic of their kingdom, Choson (ancient Korea).

Mi-Na and Hwang's default portraits. She exudes the youthful quality of her age while he is a stoic and somber. Both wear headbands which become their trademarks. Their outfits are brightly colored and have decorative patterns and prints. Her red gives contrast to his green.

Mi-Na and Hwang's alternate portraits. Both lose their headbands. She now has short hair and is dressed in blue. He is now topless and has tape on his hands and arms.

Mi-Na with her ancestral zanbatou, Scarlet Thunder. Lovely and nubile, she is portrayed in a rather melancholy mood. Her outfit appears to be a extremely stylized hanbok, the traditional Korean dress. The red, pink and yellow help define her moniker, the "Heart and Soul Girl".

Handsome Hwang, posing with his sword Blue Storm. His outfit is reminiscent of the men's Korean hanbok. His orange headband gives contrast to his green top. Looking mighty and heroic, he is aptly called the "Hero in the War-like Age".

Full body shots of their alternate costumes. Mi-Na is dressed in a long, blue skirt and vest with a single, long glove. Hwang is clad in red pants with a single, shoulder armor.

Full body shots of their default outfits. A graceful Mi-Na looking very flirtatious and kittenish, a true coquette. Handsome and reserved, Hwang is showing off his balance and leg strength. You can see the power and poise in his pose.

Mi-Na and Hwang in their fan-designed costumes. A contest was held in Japan to create new outfits for all the characters in the game. Mi-Na is wearing a front-opened skirt with with long sleeves and leggings. Hwang is wearing armor over his top and pants.
Soul Calibur
Taking place 3 years later, Mi-Na is now nineteen while Hwang is twenty-eight. Their relationship becomes a bit more serious, with a lot more romantic tension. Hwang's prologue in particular reveals how much she affects him. It is obvious he has feelings for her. Mi-Na's epilogue shows her secret attraction for Hwang. The tension is so thick you could cut it with a sword. It seemed Namco wanted them to be an item. They are the only two playable characters that showed any inclination of this happening.

Pretty Mi-Na and her Scarlet Thunder. This default portrait reveals her sunny and effervescent personality. She is radiant like the sun. Looking very cute, she now wears translucent-green, dangling earrings.

Handsome and stoic as ever, Hwang's default portrait has him posing with his new sword, Blue Thunder. His headband now has a triangle flap to one side. He is giving you his patented glare.

Mi-Na's alternate portrait. She once again sports a short haircut, but this time around wears a headband. Her look is more tomboyish, yet still very feminine.

Hwang's alternate portrait. He loses his headband and now has tattoos. His hair is stylishly messy and tousled, giving him a more wildly sexy, unkempt look.

Mi-Na's full body shot, looking graceful as ever. She radiates a luminous beauty and spirit. Her satiny, orange-red dress complements her body well, showing off her legs and shapely figure. The yellow scarf completes the outfit, giving it that extra charm.

Hwang's full body shot with Blue Thunder, looking very magnificent. His torn shirt - signifying he is a traveler on a journey (to find Mi-Na) - shows off his muscular chest and arms. He exudes such a majestic and dignified quality about him.

Mi-Na and Hwang's alternate outfits. She looks winsome and cute while he looks wild and sexy. Hwang shines in particular, looking devilishly handsome. He epitomizes magnetic sex appeal.

A cute Mi-Na drawing in her default outfit, looking very playful and free-spirited. She is still called and will always be the "Heart and Soul Girl". She gives everything and all of herself; never does anything halfway. My favorite quote from her is: "Father...I won't lose."

The mighty Hwang and his sword Blue Thunder, burning with patriotic fervor and passion. He is now called the "Patriot's Burning Soul" or "Burning Patriot". One of my favorite lines of his is: "I'll make my own way through history!" Another one is when he tells Mina,"Go home. Save Yourself." She replies, "Don't treat me like a child!" How very cute and childish of her!

Mi-Na looking pretty in black and white. I love the simplicity and charm of this image. It captures her personality very well. Such an endearing portrait of the beloved "Heart and Soul Girl".

A pretty black and white image of the handsome Hwang, scowling. Probably one of the things he's best at. The exquisite beauty of this piece makes this one of my favorites. Hwang is at his glorious best.
Soul Calibur III
Now taking place four years later, Mi-Na is twenty-three while Hwang is thirty-two. In fact, in Soul Calibur II thru IV, all the events - for some reason - take place in less than an year. So Mi-Na and Hwang stay the same age for three games. This is the last game they appear together as playable characters. Mi-Na appears in all the games while Hwang is only mentioned in the story lines in II and IV. However, in III, he is just a bonus character with no real story. He is simply just there.

Mi-Na's default outfit. She wears a skimpy top that look likes a breastplate made out of soft fabric. In fact, her skirt looks like it should have been made out of armor as well, like it supposed to be worn over something. Her hair is in a long and fabric covered ponytail. The tassel pendant completes her look. My favorite quote of hers is: "Will you finally admit that I am a full-fledged warrior now?" Another favorite is: "Don't give up just because it is hard!" And the one that epitomizes her best is: "Gotta always give it my best."

Hwang's default outfit. He dons a headband similar to his default outfit in the original Soul Calibur. He wears a top with a gold patterns over baggy pants with tape wrapped just below the knee. His long, flowing scarf complete his look. He is still quite the handsome young man. In fact, he looks younger than most of the cast. My favorite quote from this game: "I promise you will not be forgotten." Another favorite is: "I shall vanquish...the evil of the ages."
