After looking back at the very first Mega Man game, it is now time to take a look at the second one in the series. This would be perhaps in some people's eyes the greatest Mega Man game to ever exist. It is currently released on the NES and has only been seen again in the Mega Man Anniversary Collection game that was made. This one however never saw a remake at all being made or at this moment in time in development. This cover was actually better than the last one but still didn't represent properly. That didn't happen
Mega Man 2 is the first one in the original Mega Man series to start with having eight robot masters to fight. What made this one different from the last was that Dr. Wily actually built his own robots in his never ending to take over the world.
Controls
It is the same as the previous Mega Man but it works. As long as it responds well and plays well itself, then it doesn't really matter.
Plot
Pretty identical to the first plot and is a standard one but you don't need overly complex stories to get the point across.
Graphics
Pretty much identical to the first one but again graphics don't make the game. This game was created in 1988 and was still considered good.
Game Play
You have your challenge and this one had two different modes in the original version. There's your normal mode, which is just standard and of course a difficult mode, recommended for great players. What makes this game a little bit different would be the items feature.
Challenge
Like the first Mega Man game, you have your challenge to get out of the stage as quick as you can but there are pitfalls. In Quick Man's stage, you have to be quick to get through it and not make a mistake. One mistake can cost you big time. Looking back at this game, I would have to say that would be one of the most difficult stages if you do not have proper timing.
The only robots referenced from the Mega Man Animated Series that didn't appear in an episode would be Bubble Man and Flash Man. Six of the eight robots appeared in an episode, not at the same time of course. Shockingly, this hasn't been considered for a remake and you would think one would appear after the first one received one as well. The closest though it was emulated into it would be Mega Man Anniversary Collection that was made for the GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Xbox. There is only one other option at this time however and that would be to search high and low on Ebay and try to buy it that way. If you are lucky, you could find it in a pawnshop or a flea market. In fact, it may be available on Amazon.
Should this game appear on the Virtual Console, it would be worth downloading. If you want a simple plot and not have to worry about an over abundance of hints, then this would be the game to go with. There are certain themes that got remixed in other games. For instance, the most common one that you could find online would be Dr. Wily stage 1 and 2 theme and of course in Mega Man: Power Fighters.
A random note in this game would be that Metal Man can be beaten easily by his own weapon. He has officially won the award of being a wimpy robot master.
Would I recommend this game? I would say go get it as it would be something that would be a great addition to the NES library. If you are a Mega Man fan, get it.
