As some of you might or might know, Bungie (the makers of the Halo Trilogy) are releasing a second auto update for Halo 3. The update is slightly changing the ranking system that has had several complaints since Halo was released in September. The new update is also adding types of games to certain playlist like team doubles, team objective, ranked big team, DLC, and MLG.
The ranking system is changing from an overall skill that you can obtain to achieve a certain grade with the mix of Total EXP and your Highest Skill. Once the update is put on Xbox live, each playlist will have their individual skill. For example, if you are a general and your highest skill of 50 is in team doubles, and you have a 30 in team slayer, when you go into the team slayer playlist your icon will show up as a major.
Another addition is a progress table showing you how close you are to rank up in certain playlist.
The games that are being added are:
- Team Objective: Oddball, King of the Hill, and they removed ghost town
- Team doubles: Oddball, King of the Hill, 2 Flag on the Pit, and 1 Flag on Blackout
- Ranked Big Team: "Heavy" map variants added to Slayer for more intense battles, Standoff Heavy, Sandtrap Heavy
- DLC: Increased weight on Cold Storage
- MLG: Removed MLG blackout
- Double EXP Weekends: Legendary Brawl (Ranked), Grifball, Team Snipers, Living Dead
The way that I feel about the new ranking system has mixed feelings, I think that it will make ranking up easier because of the new progress bar that will help with people knowing how close they are to level up, but if you are a general and you would like to show off how good you are by people knowing you are a general and you play a playlist that you didn't get your highest skill in, it makes you look not as experienced. But when people view your service tag your overall grade will still show up as a general. I bet there are going to be a lot of controversy about the new ranking system, but it should all even out and hopefully be for the better after a couple weeks. Hopefully it will be better than the ranking system that is in current place which is very frustrating and confusing.
