Halo, one of the most popular gaming trilogies out there, is easily able to get you hooked. For one, it's all about killing aliens in the future, which I think is pretty awesome! It follows the lead character, known as Master Chief, in an Epic war against the Covenant, which is a very brutal race of aliens. There are many different sections to cover in this guide about understanding the awesome game, so let's get to it!
The Humans:
They are the main character of the game, but a few are the more mentionable.
One, perhaps the most common, is Master Chief, who the player is playing as most of the time.
Then, there are the some what useful Marines, these guys tend to get in the way sometimes, but at certain points they can be very much needed, well, until a Hunter mauls them, that is.
Finally, we have Cortana, who is technically not human, but is an AI, or Alien if you will! She is really the “conscience” of Master Chief, telling him what to do next, and things like that.
Human Weapons and Vehicles:
Pistol, Assault Rifle, Shotgun, Sniper Rifle, Rocket Launcher, Spike Cannon, SMG, Battle Rifle, Frag Grenade, Spartan Laser Cannon, Warthog, Mongoose, Hornets, Scorpion, Elephant.
The Pistol is an okay weapon, not too powerful, but can be used to get rid of the grunts.
Assault/Battle Rifle: These are both really good weapons, the assault shooting a steady stream of bullets, while the Battle shooting 3 bullets bursts. Used commonly to kill elites when their shields are down.
Shotgun: Great weapon if you want to take out your opponents quickly, although ammo can be scarce, it is still great.
Sniper Rifle: Just like most real life snipers, this can be used to take out an enemy from a long ways away! With zooming X2 and X5, you can see pretty far.
Rocket Launcher: Not good unless you really know what you are doing with it, it can kill you quickly, even though you are its controller!
Spike Cannon: I don't really know too much about this, but I hear it's a relatively decent weapon.
SMG: Sub Machine Gun, it sprays out bullets quickly, and makes your “problems” go away fast! I suggest dual wielding them!
Frag Grenade: It blows stuff up, easy as it sounds.
Spartan Laser Cannon: My Favorite Weapon in the 3rd game, it shoots a huge red beam of pure energy, taking out anything in its path. Although, it takes roughly 5-6 seconds after hold the trigger for it to go off, it's well worth the wait.
The Human Vehicles are pretty much self explanatory, except the Elephant. The Elephant only appears in the Sand trap Multiplayer level, it holds a Mongoose and a Warthog or Scorpion, and that can be useful, even though it is very slow.
The Covenant:
Dreadful aliens of the universe, composing over a few different races.
Grunts, they are the pesky little aliens that you first encounter, wielding their plasma weapons, and throwing grenades, but don't let them fool you, a quick melee to the head, or a shotgun blast will quickly take care of them!
Next we have the Jackals, quite possibly the most annoying, but these little guys wield plasma pistols and shields. While most times they can be difficult to kill, just a few rounds to the center of the shield will take them out!
The Elites, the most common creature, are force fielded, and can hurt you pretty bad. Using their weapons to get their shields down, then blasting them with an Assault rifle is usually the best way to go.
Hunters, painfully hurt you, using their brute force, and their Fuel rod cannon infused arms, can take you out if you aren't careful! The best way to rid them is to shoot at the orange spots on their back, it is their weak spot, and they fall fast after a few rounds to that spot.
Brutes are the worst to encounter, and are possibly, the most interesting…..They are big, muscular, and can scare you with sheer power if you don't watch where you are going. Just skill is all you need to kill them. Usually a shotgun or Plasma Rifle is all you need.
Prophets, you don't see too often, but they are there, and can teleport, or at least that's what I have been told!
Covenant Weapons/Vehicles: Plasma grenade, Plasma pistol, Plasma rifle, Brute shot, Sentinel Beam, Fuel Rod cannon, Needler, Carbine, Energy Sword, Ghost, Banshee, Wraith, Drop Ship, Turrets
The vehicles and weapons of the Covenant are unique, yet surprisingly the same basics as the Human weapons and vehicles so just test around with each one, to find the one that suits you best, and learn to take your opponents out, and you should do fine!
