Conduct. Most people have some code of conduct in their life. Courtesy. Yes, most people have courtesy as well. Sportsman-like behavior in an online game such as Halo 3: some people just refuse to have any when they are playing online. How should you act when playing an online game such as Halo? How do you act? What do you say to your teammates? These are all questions that a good, courteous gamer asks himself in self reflection.
Most people are kind, helpful, and understanding. Some, however, are most unpleasant to deal with, especially when they are trash talking for no reason. Now even I say derogatory things about the players on the other team when they can't hear me, but I wouldn't insult them or one of my teammates. Now you may be thinking, “well then that means that you have no principles at all and that makes you a bad person.”
Consider this though, I only make the derogatory comments when the others can't hear me in order to fire my adrenaline and make myself a better player. Most of the time I don't really mean the bad things I say. However, there are times, like right now, when I do mean bad things about people. Someone's gaming ability shouldn't govern the way other people treat them. Some gamers are slower to pick up the game than maybe you or me.
In fact, I am one of those slower people. I was terrible when I first started playing Halo 2, but through practice, losing, and winning, I am now a much better player of both Halo 2 and Halo 3; but on days like today when you meet teammates who call you names for no reason, especially when you are leading on your side of the team, one wonders why some people would call you names and act the way they do. Gamers should be more kind in what they say and should not talk bad to their teammates or use feedback as a threat for them to hide behind.
I say this to all gamers out there who get treated like this, “Don't let a stupid little child (that seems to be where most of the comments come from) or an adult badmouth you as a teammate. Simply mute the voice of the player who is talking and without saying a word to them, leave them the bad feedback and file a complaint on them for acting that way.
When enough people complain about them, they will be punished and you will still be playing and your dignity will be in tact. Usually they are just mad because you are doing better than them or they have to make you feel like a bad gamer in order for them to think that they are hot stuff.” Anyone who reads this article may look its author up on Halo 3 under the gamer tag of BigBatty89. I look forward to meeting some new people.
