I noticed a while ago that there are many Myths and Legends floating around the internet about a "Golden Warthog" in the popular Xbox game Halo 2. I was interested in the topic myself, so I decided to research it. There were many Youtube videos on the subject, most of which required the user to perform some outrageously ridiculous tasks to get the "glitch" to work. The factors that first threw up a flag that told me "this is probably fake" is that each video: had their own unique way to get the vehicle, had the vehicle appearing in different spots, and had it having different attributes (such as invincibility, rims, a special weapon inside the wreckage from it if it explodes, etc.). So, I asked on a few forums what other people thought of the myth, and most responses were that it was a Mod. For those that don't know, a Mod, or Modification, is when a person alters a game in a way of their choosing by altering some part of the game's code.
While modding is usually illegal, I couldn't help but search further into the topic, so I downloaded the program used for modding and searched for any information on the Golden Warthog. I looked through all of the game's bitmaps and couldn't find anything on the vehicle except a billboard on the level Headlong that has a picture of the vehicle on it. The billboard claims that it is the Civilian version of a military vehicle called the Warthog. However, I was dedicated to finding out for sure if this mythological vehicle was real, so I did multiple searches through the actual text code of the game, but still found nothing. So, finally I tried to make the vehicle myself through modding, and sure enough, it was 100% possible to make the vehicle through modding. So, in conclusion, the Golden Warthog does truly exist, but it is only possible to get the vehicle through modification of the original game.
