At first glance you notice the feel of the game is much refined. The cartoon violence of previous GTA titles is all but forgotten. The city beautifully rendered in an all new high definition format. Underneath this is a certainty that this is indeed Grand theft Auto. The animations for breaking into and hot wiring vehicles are brilliant. Adding a sense of urgency to every chase and insuring that you will occasionally find yourself in custody of the local law enforcement agencies. The euphoria physics engine teamed up with Rockstar's advanced graphics engine will in no uncertain terms blow your mind. The cars are molded to perfection and designed to react in many unexpected and exciting ways. At one point I found a Orange Dukes which looks decidedly similar to a certain television show about two hot rodding law breaking “Good ol' Boys”.
At this point I felt obligated to do a massive white smoking burnout. Only to find the heat from the friction between spinning rubber and asphalt lead to a catastrophic tire failure, and the sound of steel grinding on pavement. Or the time I accidentally dropped a grenade from my window which did not blow the car up. Yet bent the rear fenders so badly that it locked the rear wheels causing the front wheels to struggle against the sound of my once functional rear end screaming to be put out of it's misery. The gun battles are epic and the fun albeit slightly useless cover system is nicely received. The story is a huge step in the right direction although some more variety would be greatly appreciated. On to the multiplayer what can I say the multiplayer is like a time machine into the future. I awaken to find that hours of my life have passed me by and tomorrow I will do it all over again. GTA race was my favorite for a time which is a standard race only you have weapons.
You can leave your vehicle and make your over confident opponent eat his words or a rocket. And not a race goes by when someone doesn't camp out somewhere on the track to wreak havoc on as many competitors as possible. Blocking the track with a stolen city bus or lobbing grenades from some undisclosed location. Although cops and crooks is my new affliction I cannot get enough of either side of the battle. As a cop you must stop the criminals from leaving the map in the pre chosen escape vehicle. And as a criminal you must either get the boss safely to the extraction point, or as many criminals as possible get to the escape vehicle on their own or in groups.
And I mean by any means necessary at one point I found myself driving in reverse up the oncoming lanes of the freeway dodging traffic, while my cohorts fired untold rounds from their various weaponry into the oncoming police cruiser. Doing a swift 180 and switching quickly across the grass median and into the correct lanes, leaving the police to collide headlong into the wreckage left in our wake. If I could compare it to one thing it is like starring in an action movie that is different every time. If you do not have this game I would suggest you get it quickly because the rest of us are sharing your portion of the fun.
