Gears of War

Deep inside the planet Sera unfolds a new and never ending war. This game is the most violent, mind bending, strategic game ever created. Yes, you've guessed right it's called Gears of War.

If you've never played this game, then you don't know what you're missing. This game has such rich graphics, such good game play, and a nice variety of great weapons to kill enemies that you will enjoy every minute of play.

Gears of War is a third person shooter game, in which the player takes control of Marcus Fenix who is followed around by his amazing and powerful crew, although, this third person perspective game was influenced by another game. An interview with Cliff Bleszinski, lead developer for Epic Games, reveals “This perspective came from the game,” said Bleszinski, “Resident Evil 4.” This game is mainly about duck and cover, because every level is harder than the other. There are more people shooting at the player and they have to protect themselves by, of course, covering or hiding. The player can also sprint and run away from an enemy, but this makes it harder to target the enemy, because the camera bobbles up and down behind the player as if another person was behind them running.

As for the weapons there aren't many to choose, but the player has to learn to conserve and use their ammo at the right time. This game is actually based on real warfare. This is the reason why there are such limited weapons. The weapons consist of assault rifles, shotguns, rifles, pistols, and sniper rifles. There are also some melee attachments that the player can add onto one of the weapons. There is also one more weapon, which can only be used when there is a great deal of open space. It is called the Hammer of Dawn. Although this weapon is powerful, it can kill the player and his teammates, and the opponents at the same time. As for reloading, there is no auto reload. The player them self must press the button to activate the reload sequence. The trick to reloading is that if timed poorly the gun will jam and take longer to reload. Also the player will not be able to switch weapons, thus leaving them self open. Also if timed perfectly the gun will take less than two seconds to reload and the damage will increase about eight percent. So it all depends on the timing.

Instead of a health bar which is found in many shooter games, this game uses a crimson omen, a cog-shaped icon that glows brighter indicating that it is getting filled with blood which means that the player is going to die. When the player dies he or she must restart from that last checkpoint. When the player is not dead, but is still wounded the player could revive his health by staying out of enemies' way, or in other words, cover for a short amount of time, the player knows that he or she is healed when the omen slowly fades away. The game also has three difficulty settings which are casual, hardcore, and insane!!!

This is one great game. If you would like to make anybody happy then send them this game, but make sure they are old enough to play. This game is rated 17 and older. If you're planning to get a game then consider putting it on your wish list.
