When I first heard about Battlefield coming to consoles (I don't consider modern combat a real console game), I could hardly wait. I'd only ever known/heard good things about the PC games online, so this was a big thing for me that it was coming to my beloved PS3. When I got it, I definitely was not disappointed. There are however, a bunch of flaws in the game that do detract from its enjoyment, though the game is still quite superb.

No Prone

While this isn't too big a problem generally, unless you wanted to hide under a car or something, it is a major problem if you're trying to hide while playing as a sniper. Standing or sitting on the top of a big hill doesn't quite give you the same security and anonymity that lying prone would do. The oddest thing about this is that it's in pretty much every single game and should be easy to add to this one.

Weapon Imbalance

While the weapons are generally pretty well balanced, so that demolition players using shotguns will kill most people, but only at short range, and snipers will rarely be picked off at extreme range by people with M16s, there are some problems with certain weapons. Some snipers shoot far too fast, which makes it far too simple to insure you will never be in any danger as a sniper. Snipers also have revolvers/pistols which are overpowered. To kill someone with a MG36 takes approximately 15 shots, whereas a revolver will kill a player in 2-3 shots. This means that the primary weapon for a support player is weaker at close range than a sniper's secondary weapon. This can make it very difficult for people to kill snipers unless they approach them undetected.

Online Lag

Bad Company isn't a game that suffers from regular online lag, but when it does, it's absolutely terrible. You can find your character starts “gliding” around the map, or he “jumps” from place to place like a kangaroo rather than running like a person. The worst part is when you're shooting someone, but they've actually been gone for like 5 seconds, and you end up being stabbed in the back by an opponent who you never even saw. Fortunately it's generally on a game by game or server by server basis, so you can leave your game and join a new one and you'll be in a good game, most of the time.

All in all, Battlefield Bad Company is a really, really great game. It's not like Rainbow Six Vegas in terms of strategy or anything near those levels, but it was never designed to be. Bad Company is the newest breed of First Person Shooter, a first person shooter where you are never safe, and neither is your opponent. This is a must own for anyone interested in war/shooter games, probably even people with just a mild yearning to play the occasional shooter game. If you don't own this, you should get it now, as it deserves at least a 9.2/10.
