Furthermore, every single character in the game can have every single skill by the end of
the game. There is absolutely no reason not to choose a party of Vaan, Penelo, and Fran over
Basch, Balthier, and Ashe other than personal preference.
I am sorry but this flawed system gets a 3/10. I knew Square couldn't help but ruin a
great game. It isn't that bad I guess, but it is ridiculous.
Gameplay
Finally to the very core of the game. Where the fun factor is. If you strictly follow the
story and don't try to get any of the really cool items (like I did) the gameplay is great. You
move smoothly from one thing onto the next. Menus are nice but simple, button config is fine,
and no real complaints about controlling my character. Also this game features some of the
coolest optional bosses ever.
However, if you are a hardcore gamer or you go back to finish everything up. Be ready
to waste your life. Getting some of the best items in the game involves grinding the same enemies
for days hoping for a ridiculously rare drop. And some of the harder optional bosses can take hours
to defeat. Why is this? Because they took the same ideas from FFXI and turned them into a single
player RPG. I used to play XI so please excuse the rant at the end of this review.
Overall not to bad, but if I wanted to play an MMORPG I would get on XI... 7/10.
Conclusion
I finished this game and I was absolutely happy I did. Along with FFVI this is probably my
favorite of the Final Fantasy series. Definitely buy this. A rental will not even give you time to get
into it. If you are a few bucks short, sell your FFVIII to a friend. You don't need that pile of crap
anyway.
If you want me to tell you why VIII sucked then flame me in my comments and I will write
a bad review. Go ahead. Flame away. I will end this with my final review and a rant about people
who complain about this game being like an MMORPG from my experiences as an XI player.
7.8/10
If they would just fix the License system and use this system, with updates of course, to a new
game it could easily get a 10/10 in my book.
Enter Rant
You guys complained about FFXI being an online only game for YEARS and when they
finally release a game in many ways similar you complain about the grinding. Well guess what.
That is exactly what you would have gotten with FFXI off line. Except worse. You would get very
little storyline, redundant quests, and every monster would kill you cause you don't have a party.
You got what you asked for. Don't say game makers don't listen. So don't complain about what
you asked for.
