In order to get a Green chocobo you must first have a great quality and good quality chocobo. You can catch the good quality chocobo in the gold saucer area, and a great quality chocobo in the Mideel area and the Rocket town area. Feed them Sylkis greens until their stats are maxed out (if it only says they're getting along better or no improvement they're maxed out). Race them until they're both B class and then mate them with a Carob nut. After you mate them keep them because you'll use them again.
How to obtain a River chocobo (Blue)
In order to obtain a Blue chocobo you need to use race the Chocobos you used to get the Green chocobo, race them until they're Class A. Once you've got them to class A breed them again with a Carob and you'll get a Blue chocobo. Make sure your Blue chocobo is the opposite gender of your Green chocobo. Note: if you get your Chocobos to go to A class fast enough you won't be able to breed them for a while, so just go visit a few other towns. After you mate them release them and keep only your Blue and Green Chocobos.
How to obtain a River- Mountain Chocobo (Black)
First take your Green and Blue Chocobos, feed them Sylkis greens until they're stats are maxed out, and then race them until they're both Class A. Once they reach class A mate them with a Carob nut. Then release them unless you want to rent another stable.
How to obtain an ocean Chocobo (gold)
Capture a wonderful quality chocobo (icicle area) and max out its stats. Also, max out your black Chocobo's stats, then race both your wonderful chocobo and you black chocobo until their both class A. Mate them with a Zeio nut and you will have a Gold Chocobo.
Chocobo racing tips
Here are a few tips on how to race in the chocobo races at the Gold saucer:
- Always max out your Chocobo's stats before you start to race.

- When racing, always use manual control.

- Hold the R1, R2, and Square buttons down while racing so that you're always running full speed(not dashing) and your stamina never runs out.

- Always run on the inside and don't use your dash ability until you're in the final stretch of the race, or in order to gain a SIGNIFICANT lead.
