Do not read if you have not completed Final Fantasy 12, there may be spoilers included.
The whole gang is back with a few new faces, set after Final Fantasy 12 we catch up at the start of the game with Vann and Penelo who are now travelling with Balthier and Fran. Vaan's dream of being a sky pirate has come true as he now has his own airship; all grown up a new adventure awaits them.
This is not going to be just a brief overview of the story….you will need to buy the actual game to find out, or just look it up on a games site. Anyways this is more of a review on game play and such, it's more to get you into the feel of the game before you go and buy it if you are thinking about doing so. Now the game play is a bit different from FF12, you can still click on one of your party to attack one monster and another member to attack another. Gambits are back as are quickenings, the one difference is you have a load more espers to summon but as the case goes with most games you need to unlock them all. I at the moment am on 80% or so and still haven't unlocked them all so there are a fair few, and each party member can summon espers to their side. The party can either attack together by dragging the DS pen over them and then clicking on the enemy or do it individually; I of course for speed get all of them to annihilate a single group of enemies for speed.
At first it might seem a bit weird trying to get used to the battle system…wasn't it the same when FF12 first came out? Well it was with me….I wasn't that used to that style of battle until I played Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2. If you can get past the annoying dragging and clicking every few minutes it is a decent game with a very good storyline, as with this one politics are no where to be seen in any great detail. It is easy to follow and even when you are off doing mini quests to gather up the rest of percentage needed to finish the game, you still remember where you need to be for the remainder of the storyline. Everyone from FF12 is back with some familiar faces and some new which include a mage called Kytes, I'm not going to spoil the rest of it as I think you should play it to find out.
Each party member has their own quickening Vaans of course is the good old pyroclasm and Penelos is something totally different which heals all of your party. Each characters quickening is helpful in some way by either totally killing off every monster in the vicinity or healing you fully.
I would suggest only buying this game if you enjoyed FF12 and have played it as some elements from FF12 are talked about in Revenant Wings, so that can seem a bit new to those who have not experienced FF12. All in all it is a good DS game one of the best I have played so far including Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Chains of Fate.
