I know that this is an old game now. I am a late bloomer with games online. I started playing ET a couple of months ago. For the first couple of weeks I was terrible. I wasn't the worst player around, just pretty bad. It wasn't until I started talking to veterans of the game that I started to pick up on some useful information. After a couple of weeks talking and playing with good players I found that my game had dramatically improved. The following is 5 tips on how you can improve your game. Some of these tips are for ET and some will work for any game online.
Join a Clan
Clans are a great way to meet players that know what they are doing. It may take you some time to find the right clan for you. Some clans will not accept “noobs” but others will accept new players and become tutors. This is how I became a better player. After joining a clan that was relative new I managed to make some contacts in other clans and made friends that helped me.
Make a Config
I say make a config but in reality it is much easier to get one off a good player that you know. That's where the Clan comes in. By being in a Clan you can get access to more information than I could ever give you. After you get a config from someone you just need to alter it so it suits your style of play. For instance, if you prefer to play as a medic than add binds that allow easy access to the Syringe and Medpacks. If you play as an Engineer add binds that allow quick access to Dynamite and Mines. It might take you a while to get the hang of a config. A great way of getting tips for your config is to just ask.
Another way to make a config is to use a config builder. There are many around, find one that works for you. Playing around with your config is the best way to find what is best for you.
What I Recommend
- Low graphic settings to maximize fps.
- Relatively low sensitivity to maximize accuracy.
- Mouse binds for important weapons/items.
Practice
This can't be stressed enough. You are not going to be able to become a good player in any game without practice. Practice doesn't involve just running around a public server killing noobs. It's practicing with your clan. Teamwork is the key in many games. Knowing what to do and when can be the difference between completing the objective or failing completely. Know your maps and know your strategies. Its all well and good to be a great player but its pointless if you go off on your own and end up being slaughtered in a 1v2 or even 1v3 situation.
Never Use Hacks
It may be tempting to just use a hack on a public server just to see what it's like. You may just want to test one, you may want to use it for fun or you may just want to win for once. It may be fun at first but it will ruin your game. If you use a hack to often you can become dependent on it. Your game will suffer. You also run the risk of getting caught using cheats. If you get caught you can circumvent the ban that you will get but you will forever be known as a hacker.
Watch and Learn
Spectating can be your best friend. After a while playing you will learn who the good players are. If you ever happen to be in the same server as them take the time to watch them (if it isn't a full server). This is a great way to learn from the best. See what lines they take (for example in the map Supply Depot when assaulting there is a wall that you can line up between you and the top bunker so people in that bunker cant shoot you). Watch how they shoot and what places they check for campers. By watching players you can also learn how to beat them. You can start predicting what they will do, where they will go. Whether you will be able to watch and learn from other players is up to whether or not you are good at observing things.
I hope this helps those new players that I see joining ET all the time. While this is an older game I am pleased to see new players joining everyday.
