Creating the ultimate character is easy. Some people focus on finding the right combination of race, sex, birth-sign and class, but the truth is that it's not 100% necessary. Here are just a few easy steps to create the character of your dreams.
Ultimate Creations
Just incase you can't sleep at night without dealing with the aforementioned zen of creation, here is a list of some ideal characters for each playing style. These are my personal creations and have worked extremely well for me. I don't list a class, because that's one of the secrets to success. Continue onto section 2 once you've chosen a creation or if you don't care about this.
Pure Mage
Race: Breton
Sex: Female
Birth Sign: Atronach
The Atronach is supposedly hard to work with because you won't automatically recover magicka. What they don't tell you is that your magicka will be restored every time you sleep and, of course, sorcery potions still work. Therefore this “problem” is more than manageable. I prefer this sign over the Apprentice, which the official guide recommends (along with making this Breton male), because while the weakness is offset by the Breton's natural defenses, there is still a weakness. The Mage's magicka bonus isn't sufficient to support a full-mage role (well, at least at low levels).
Pure Stealth
Race: Argonian
Sex: Male
Birth Sign: The Thief OR The Shadow
The trick with the pure stealth character is your personal level of cautiousness. If you want to be stealth combat, choose the Thief, and if you want to be pure stealth, choose the Shadow. The problem with the Shadow sign is that with this method you'll learn better spells within the first few hours of gameplay. Why Argonian over Khajiit? Argonians have poison and disease resistance and can breathe under water. This will be very useful especially in the stealth missions of the Thieve's Guild and Dark Brotherhood.
Pure Combat
Race: Nord, Redguard or Orc
Sex: Male
Birthsign: The Warrior
There are plenty of races that boast excellent combat stats. My personal favorite is Orc, mainly for aesthetics but they have the stats to back it. If you prefer blades over blunt then chose the Redguards and you'll find that their Adrenaline Rush skill is excellent. I've never been a full-on combat guy though. I've found that the game is much harder unless you employ stealth or magic to some degree.
Class: Power Level
Based on your character choices create a custom class which specializes in magic, combat or stealth and choose two stats to boost. These parts don't matter. What does matter is the skills you choose to level. No matter what type of character you play as, choose these six skills and a seventh of your own: Alteration, Destruction, Restoration, Illusion, Mysticism, Conjuration.
Why, pray tell, would a combat character want these skills? Continue onto step 3.
Power Leveling Spells
Your first priority is to gain access to the Arcane University. Create the following spells using the spell-making alter.
Train Illusion Invisibility (minimum stats-self)
Train Restoration Recover Health (minimum stats-self)
Train Mysticism Detect Life (minimum stats-self)
Train Destruction Damage Health (minimum stats-self [trust me])
Train Alteration Burden or Feather(minimum stats-self)
Train Conjuration Summon Ghost (minimum stats-self)
These spells can be cast repeatedly with little damage to magicka, which (unless you're an Atronach) restore instantly. The true leveling trick is to cast these spells repeatedly. You will become beast in two ways.
You will raise levels very fast. At least eight levels an hour.
You will quickly rise in these skills, allowing you to cast the high-level spells.
This is grind-tastic work, but it's well worth it.
- Enchantments
Another route to creating invincible characters even at low levels is powerful enchanted items. Gather ye some Grand Soul Gems and create any of these custom weapon and armor sets:
Camo Gear
By wearing all of the Camo Gear, you can enjoy a way to remain truly invisible and still be able to act. One Grand Soul Gem creates a chameleon effect of 20%. So charm a full set of gear like so. I recommend Blade armor.
Camo Helmet: 20%
Camo Greaves: 20%
Camo Cuirass: 20%
Camo Boots: 20%
Camo Ring: 20%
I recommend a ring (over a shield) for staff, bow, and 2 handed weapon wielders. With this armor equipped, you will be able to play the game completely undetected. When you talk to somebody they will respond, but you can attack most enemies and they will not retaliate because they can't see you! This even works on daedra and some guards. Don't get too excited. You kill somebody in a faction you're a member of, you'll still be held responsible.
