System: Playstation 2
Genre: 1st person shooter
Cost: About $20
Rating: 4/5
007 Nightfire is a game that basically involves you playing as James Bond and shooting people. There are many vehicle levels as well, so you can rest assured there is some form of weaponry you will like, although there is also a good chance you won't like some of them.
Story Mode
The story mode involves you trying to stop the destruction of the world. You start by saving an agent, then you go on to steal weapons, disarm missile silos, and even venture into the depths of space in one level. Although the storyline isn't particularly intriguing, it will serve well enough to pass in a 1st person shooting game.
Multiplayer
The multiplayer is quite addictive. You can have up to 4 human players, and 4 AI. There are several game modes, from a classic free for all, to king of the hill, to capture the flag! The downside is that almost everything requires a high score on Story Mode, or cheating, which can be done without an external device.
The multiplayer may also be done with 1 person and some bots, although the game restricts bots from one map for some reason. The weapons sets are quite varied and allows for hours of different setups. Fun for 1-4 players. Not the greatest game to watch, however.
Camera and Controls
The Camera is actually quite good. Of course, is the norm for this genre of games, as it just stays from the character's point of view. It has never impaired gameplay for me, except for losing the angle on some vehicle missions.
The controls are quite nice when on foot, thanks to having a huge variety of control schemes. This includes one for the fire on X or R1.
Graphics
The graphic are sub-par. The people in multiplayer(where one will spend most time) are terrible looking. The scenery is far from great. Sure it's only an early PS2 game, but this is pretty bad. None of this impairs gameplay, just not good for looks.
Sound
The music is nice. It can get stuck in your head, but it doesn't stick like some games. The sounds from weapons are almost believable. Definitely a game easy on the ears.
Variety
The characters are quite varied, yet you only have one choice in the main story. The weapons are incredibly varied, even within one weapon! Yet all the weapons are still based off real ones(or at least really close). There is a weapon for every case and a case for every weapon.
Overall
Rating: 4/5
A great game for 1st person shooter fans. Fans of similar genres can enjoy it, and even casual gamers get a shot. Although the main story has a higher difficulty and multiplayer, with the worst graphics will be the main reason to even play this game. Definitely a good choice for 2 players, but not online gamers, as this doesn't support online. For 20-30 bucks, this is a pretty good title, worth the while if you can stand PS1 quality graphics.
