I should preface this with a warning: I absolutely suck at writing, I also am just kind of going balls to the walls; this is just something for me to do while I am bored. I also have no idea what I am doing but it's a good way to pass time. If you have any comments feel free to post… if you are telling me I suck, I know but you can still say it.
Well I recently picked up the game Turning Point: Fall of Liberty. It is a very solid game that, after getting used to the controls is very fun. The setting of this game is a “what if” scenario. The time period is WW II. Adolf Hitler and the Nazis have taken over all of Europe. Winston Churchill is dead. He died weeks before the Nazis mobilized for war.
The Nazis attempt to land on the East Coast of America. Sorry Ryan. They begin to take over. This is where your story starts. You play a simple construction worker named Dan Carson. He couldn't care less about politics. Until those damned Nazis decide to try and take his city of New York.
The getting used to period refers to the speed of the movement. If you look up and down it is plenty fast, but when looking right and left it is very slow. Naturally most people go to the options menu and turn the sensitivity up. Now the up and down movement is near being uncontrollable. So you just must get used to it. After less than day of game play any decent gamer should be used to these controls.
The game is great. You can have 2 weapons with you at on time. You must hold the west side where your allies have setup a fort. There are grenades which I use in this game more than any other. You must defeat those invading New York. You blow tanks up and kill shit- tons of Nazis. It is a lot of fun. After this you must go rescue a General, I don't think it is a real person and I can't remember his name, but you run through an American building filled with Nazi Propaganda and Swastikas. After you rescue him you must get out with him.
The game has a very interesting storyline and unlike games based on real events you have no idea what is actually happen.
The game play other than the movement is great. As you loose health you vision is blurred, color turn darker, and the game goes into slow motion. There is an great features that when you are close enough to an enemy an icon will appear and you have the choice to grapple the enemy. If you choose to you then have a choice to kill the enemy instantly or use him as a human shield. If you choose to kill him you do some kind of kill move. The great thing is there are environmental kills like throwing people off buildings, smashing their heads into television, and giving them the notorious death swirlie. If you choose to use him as a human shield while he is facing the enemy he absorbs most of the damage. Eventually he will start to squirm away and you must kill him, or he gets shot so much he dies and is no longer of any use to you. The grenades are used a lot, or if you choose to use them they make the game a lot easier. Environmental kills are pretty cool because he finds so many funny ways to kill people, like giving them a swirlie to death.
This is a very solid game and other than the adjustment needed to get used to the movement there are not any drawbacks I have found. I would defiantly buy this and for 5 dollars more the collector's edition is available. It domes with a cool poster, concept art, and a DVD showing the preface to the game (Winston dieing and Hitler taking over and all). All that is left to say is, man that would suck if this happened, and what if.
Thanks for wasting 5 minutes of your life to read this. Let me know what you think!
