Star Trek Legacy Review

This Star Trek fan reviews the most recent video game to hit the market. Will it live up to your expectations?

The Star Trek Universe is growing exponentially with the release of newer games that look even more realistic to the latest Star Trek series and movies. But is Star Trek: Legacy all the hype it's put up to be? Let's find out, shall we?

The Storyline

The main storyline behind Legacy is quite simple. The single-player mode begins with a distress call from a Vulcan ship. Captain Archer commands Enterprise and sets a course to investigate, only to find out the Vulcan ship, lead by T'Uerell, is under attack by three Romulan cruisers. With the help of a damaged allied vessel, Archer manages to destroy the Romulan attackers and aid T'Uerell in her "scientific mission." After several episodes of the game, T'Uerell manages to escape the sector, leaving behind Archer and the Federation fleet in complete bewilderment.
The remaining episodes of Legacy revolve around T'Uerell and her alliance with the Borg. Your ultimate goal? Destroy T'Uerell. Not surprisingly, she manages to evade destruction until the very last episode of the game.

Single-Player Campaign Review

The single-player campaign is really the mainstay of Legacy, although the game does have a Skirmish and Multiplayer mode. Bethesda Softworks has managed to get the captains from all five of the Star Trek series to record their voices for the game, which adds some real authenticity for the hard-core fans of the franchise. However, some of their voices can be heard more often than others. For example, Captain Benjamin Sisko and Captain Kathryn Janeway only have one or two episodes in the game where their voices can be heard, whereas the others are in five to ten episodes.

Now, the description on the back-cover of Legacy's DVD and X-Box 360 packaging states that all five captains will have to unite in order to defeat T'Uerell. Unfortunately, only in the final 2-3 episodes of Legacy do you see the actors from multiple series join together, such as Picard and Janeway. But not once in the entire game do captains from different eras in time join together, which is what the description implies.
