Games
Xbox 360
I have always said that the most important point of a gaming system is the
games. Out of the two competitors I must say that neither one impresses me
greatly. The 360 has mostly FPSs. I can not complain too much about them
as some are quite good. The problem is that every single one of them also is out
for the PC. And in my opinion the PC is a vastly superior system for the FPS genre.
The 360 does have some games in the other genres. The hack-and-slash
game N3: Ninety Nine Nights is actually quite good. And the RPG Enchanted Arms.
However the controller was specifically designed to match the FPS genre and using
it on these other types of games feels clunky and in some cases just wrong.
Furthermore every game I have played on the 360 has glitched in some way.
Sometimes it's okay. Sometimes it is even good for me. However in some games the
glitch hurt me so bad I had to start over. Save often with this console. If it isn't a glitch
then a disc read error which I will cover later.
Despite these problems I will give the 360s games a 3/5. And you can thank F.E.A.R.
for that.
Nintendo Wii
Anyone who knows me at all knows I have hated the games spit out by Nintendo
since I was born. I have never seen the fun in doing extremely minor tasks with very
little story to make me want to continue playing. And so far the Wii has hit me with a very
similar slew of games.
I will admit I haven't played much on the Wii. But the games I have played have
all been either extremely childish or ridiculously hard to control. Most of these games are
so simple you could beat them in your sleep. Assuming you can beat them, several games
on the Wii are not "beaten." Others though the control is so hard the game becomes near
impossible.
I can't say I hated every game I have played. Twilight Princess was fun (but better
on the gamecube) and Cooking Mama gave me about five minutes of entertainment.
Maybe Nintendo is just holding back releasing its spectacular games, but with what we
have now I have to give this a 2/5.
Controller
Xbox 360
I will keep this section short as I covered most of it earlier. The 360 controller is a
vast improvement over the huge Xbox controller. The controller is much easier to hold
and use. However the controller still feels uncomfortable at best on anything but FPSs so
I will give it a 4/5.
Nintendo Wii
The Wiimote is a very important part of everything you do on the Wii. Go through
menus. Play games. Everything in a hand-sized Wiimote (and maybe Nunchuck.) The
controls on the controllers surprisingly make sense (most of the time) and I haven't had
any major problems with button placement.
The problem is while I'm playing the Wii mote
has a tendency to get a mind of it's own and simply vanish at key moments. Or I try and
do something and it thinks I did something else. And the Nunchuck just mostly gets in the
way of your mad swinging.
In conclusion. The Wiimote: Good for choking people. Bad for gaming. 2/5.
System Stability
Xbox 360
For those of you that now think I am a 360 fan... here we go. This system completely
lacks any thought to it's construction. Ventilation is in all the wrong places and what
ventilation it has hardly works. Without paying extra for an inter cooler this system will
probably burst into flames. And if the system is hot the PSU is flaming. I have had that thing
so hot I couldn't touch it.
This system (which is a gaming system by the way) has never played a single game
without a problem for me. This includes original Xbox games. Either the game freezes,
glitches, disc read errors or something at me every time I am hoping it doesn't.
By the way sometimes games just don't work in this system. No scratches on the
disc. Brand new system. And you will receive a disc read error for no real reason every
time. Happened to me with Dead Rising and it is a wide spread problem. Buyer beware.
I wish I could give it a zero but it actually works sometimes so... 1/5.
Nintendo Wii
This is probably because all the games are... how to put this... not system pushing, to
say the least. But this system has never lagged or given me any problems. My only complaint
is that the Wiimote uses batteries... but so does the 360 so... 5/5.
