The Wii Fit is a fun way to loose weight, tone your body, improve your balance and work on your strength. When you first create a profile it checks your BMI (Body Mass Index) and works out your Fitness age. It then places you on a chart that tells you if you are underweight, normal or overweight for your height. However it doesn’t just tell you and then leave you feeling depressed, it helps you plan out weight loss or weight gain in an effective, healthy way. They recommend you to weigh yourself regularly to check how you’re getting on. But it isn’t all about boring weight loss. You engage in a variety of different exiting activities and exercises. Some are using the wireless Wii remote, and others are on the Wii Fit Balance Board that you buy with the game. Below is a description of a few of the games available on the Wii Fit.
Strength Training: exercises to tone your muscles
Single Leg Extension, Sideways Leg Lift, Arm and Leg Lift, Single-Arm Stand, Torso Twists, Rowing Squat, Single Leg Twist, Lunge, Push-Up and Side Plank, Jackknife, Plank and Triceps’ Extension.
I personally don’t enjoy this section, mainly because I am not physically strong enough to cope with the hard muscle workouts. I have found that men enjoy these more than women.
Aerobics: exercises to get your heart pumping
Hula Hoop, Basic Step, Basic Run, Super Hula Hoop, Advanced Step, 2-P Run, Rhythm Boxing, Free Step and Free Run.
I love all of these games! They are really fun to play on. I especially enjoy Advanced Step and Rhythm Boxing. Advanced Step uses the Wii Fit Balance Board. Basically you follow the directions on the screen and step on and off the board. It isn’t as easy as it sounds though, you have to use certain feet and move to the beat. This game is a bit like dancing! Basic Step is the same, but much simpler. Free Step is very good too. Before you begin, you set a time target. (e.g. 15mins, 30mins etc.). Then you just step on then off on then off whilst watching normal TV! I have found this works incredibly well.
Yoga: exercises to work on your flexibility:
Deep Breathing, Half-Moon, Cobra, Bridge, Spinal Twist, Shoulder Stand, Warrior, Tree, Sun Salutation, Standing Knee, Palm Tree, and Downward-Facing Dog.
If you’re not flexible, some of these games are really hard to master. Deep Breathing I think is the easiest.
Balance Games: fun, balanced-based games
Soccer Heading, Ski Slalom, Ski Jump, Table Tilt, Tightrope Tension, Balance Bubble, Penguin Slide, Snowboard Slalom and Lotus Focus
My personal favorite is Tightrope Tension. It is difficult not to fall off the long tightrope before you reach safety so this game becomes quite frustrating and addictive!
I would defiantly recommend Wii Fit. It is fun, easy to set up and it helps to keep you in shape!
