Two years have passed since Nintendo, one of the biggest gaming companies, showed us it's new console. The only information given was it's codename ‘revolution' nothing else was given. Many fans were so happy to have heard this, the only thing bothering them was the lack of information. In 2006, Nintendo released big doses of information, including it's release date which was shown as November 19 th and it's new name ‘Wii' (pronounced ‘we').
Along with the release date and new name, Nintendo also showed what it could do, using motion sensing technology in each controller. This stunned the crowd at the E3s. Using the new controller known as the wiiremote (or better yet wiimote) each movement done could be sensed by the wii resulting in a movement in game. Another piece that the wii could do was play Nintendo's last generation console the Gamecube. Even better it could also play Super Nintendo games, Nintendo games, Turbo Graphix games and Sega games! A new feature also added to the Wii was the ability to create avatars or named Mii (pronounced ‘me'). Making them look like family members and celebrities. Nintendo also promised to sell four million consoles, compared to other systems like the Playstation 3 who only decided to sell 200 000 by the end of the year.
Now that year is gone and a new year has started. We can see that Nintendo has achieved their goal of selling over four million consoles. They have also attracted many different people, non gamers and gamers. This is truly something surprising. This console coming at an affordable price along with attracting many different people has been a success to Nintendo.
The console will still be hard to find and we can still expect people to still camp out for stores to get their weekly shipment. We can now truly call Nintendo the king of games.
