Yes, the Nintendo Wii. The video game console that is proclaimed to have introduced whole new groups of people to the world of gaming. It's great and all, but ask yourself, isn't it just a little bit childish? It's fine and all for kids, and perhaps the elderly, but those of us who call ourselves hard core gamers should simply turn and scoff. The power of the console is utterly lacking, and the titles that the Wii sports (yes, Wii Sports being among them) are populated with droves of cartoonish characters. Of course, there are always the classics that the some of us may remember, such as Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and the Legend of Zelda, but the market for the platform is simply saturated with a huge density of these 3rd party excuses for games.
Think about it. What are the best games you've played? Left for Dead? Call of Duty 4? Or even, (chuckles), Team Fortress 2? None of them are available for Wii. In Nintendo's aim to be more family friendly, they've all but cut off the supply of games for an older audience from its flagship enterprise. Sure, everyone loves intuitive controls, but a gaming console is only as good as its games are. And unfortunately, the games that are available for the Nintendo Wii, they make us point and laugh. Its unique design is innovative, but that innovation has not the direction that it needs to continue on the same market as companies such as Sony or Microsoft. So they are simply taking the easy way out, by creating their own market.
Financially, the Wii is a success. But in terms of gaming, I would stick to my PC.
