The Nintendo Wii is the newest gaming console from Nintendo, released November 2006. Instead of using a controller for controlling game play, it uses a remote and nunchuck with sensors built in to recognize movements of the player. The Nintendo Wii has very simple controls for most games, making it a family appropriate system. The WiiMote can be held sideways as a steering wheel or upright as a gun, plane, sword, etc.
There have been many anticipated games such as:
- ‘Metroid Prime 3: Corruption’ (coming out near the end of 2007)
- ‘Super Smash Brothers Brawl’ (coming out in the third quarter of 2007)
- ‘The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess’
The Nintendo Wii, aside from its revolutionary game play, unique controllers, and ability to play Nintendo Gamecube games, it also has other features; it has the ability to connect and download content off the internet such as unique channels (weather, news, shopping, mailing friends and relatives) or classic Nintendo64, NES, and SNES games, through the purchase of Wii Point cards and a broadband internet connection.
When playing the Nintendo Wii, you can create and name characters called Miis and customize them however you’d like. These Miis can be used in various games and appear in them, sometimes just in the background.
Altogether, the Wii is a great entertainment source for anyone of any age and is cheap, especially for a new system, with most people selling them for around $280 Canadian (without tax) and about $250 American, each game costing about $40-$60 each.
