Hey there, fellow gamers. Welcome to the Gamers Guide to the Nintendo Wii. The Wii is Nintendo's 7th generation game console and is competing with Sony's PS3 and Microsoft's XBox 360. It is currently the highest in sales, selling around 30 million consoles worldwide as of June 30th 2008. The Wii is known for it's innovative style of gaming, due to the wireless motion-sensing Wii Remote or Wiimote. Here is a Wii Trailer which will give you a demonstration of the Wii Remote in play:
Due to the Wii's innovative playing style and low price many players who had been playing on the PS2 or Xbox now play on nintendo's console. The Wii doesn't have all those HD graphics, blu-ray DVD player therefore making it's price low and it's gaming media's price is low too, since it's DVD. Here are some basic things about the Nintendo Wii
What will you get when you first buy a Wii: In a package of a Wii you will recieve:
A Wii Console
1 Wii Remote
1 Wii Nunchuck
1 Wii Console Stand
1 Sensor Bar
2 Manuals (namely operations manual and channels and settings manual)
1 Wii Sports Disc
Wii Menu: The Wii has a system of channels. When you first switch the Wii on, you can see the Disc Channel, Mii Channel, Photo Channel, Wii Shop channel, Forecast channel, News Channel, Wii options and Wii Message boards like below.
Let me give a brief description of each channel:
Disc Channel: The Disc Channel is the 1st channel on the Wii Menu where you can start playing if you insert a Wii or gamecube disc, it shows you the game's logo once insert a disc.
Mii Channel: After the Disc Channel comes the Mii channel. In the Mii channel, you can create your own virtual avatars called Miis. You can play with your Miis in specific games such as Wii Sports.
Photo Channel: You can view Photos here if inserted an SD card in the SD card slot which has photos.
Wii Shop Channel: In the Wii Shop channel, we can buy virtual console (read more about the virtual console below) and Wii Ware games exclusive to the Wii. You can also buy chanels like Internet Channel, Everybody votes channels. It has it's own system of currency, Wii points can be bought from local stores. The conversion rate is around 100 Wii points to a dollar.
Forecast Channel: If your Wii is connected to WiiConnect24, you can recieve the latest weather updates and forecasts around the globe on this channel.
News Channel: If your Wii is connected to WiiConnect24, you can recieve the latest News Updates around the globe on this channel
Wii Options: This is not a channel. You can configure your Wii settings here
Wii Message Boards: This is not a channel. You can send or recieve messages, photos or Miis to your Wii friends here.
Virtual Console and Wii Ware: The Wii has incredible backward compatibility, it can play gamecube CDs and you can buy games from all the Nintendo consoles before the gamecube from the Virtual console on the Wii Shop channel in the Wii. Wii Ware is a set of games exclusive to the Wii. You can buy them from the Wii Shop channel.

A Wii Remote: The Wii is all about family fun. It shines as a multiplayer console, so another Wii remote will be good.
A Nunchuck: In many games playing with a nunchuck is a must. Many of these games have multiplayer, so you can play with your friends.
Gamecube controller: The Wiimote cannot play many gamecube and virtual console games due to the lack of buttons. There are for gamecube controller slots in on the Wii. So, you better buy the gamecube controller it can play all the virtual console games except turbo grafx16 games.
Classic Controller: DO NOT BUY THIS CONTROLLER IF YOU ALREADY HAVE THE GAMECUBE CONTROLLER. This controller was built for playing virtual console games, if you are a fan of Turbo Grafx16 and have a gamecube controller, it's up to you to buy this controller.
