With a Xbox 360 plugged into your home router, you can have access to the "Steak house" of the system. Plugging your system into a router will give you access to two key parts that make the Xbox 360 quite an impressive system. The first is Xbox live, if you don't know what this is, you're missing out. Xbox live is playing video games online in simple terms. With the systems innovative software, you can play against or with people, as well as give reviews about other players and how they behave. Do you want to see what games someone has been playing? Or do you want to file a complaint about a gamer who spoils the fun and ruins a online experience? All of this as well as many others can be accomplished. Among other things, you can send other users messages, both in voice or text to keep in touch with others. The other function is the Media Center, without this its hard to look at your Xbox 360 the same way again. Media center allows the Xbox 360 to playback music and video as well as view pictures from your computer without taking up memory space on your Xbox 360. Without this function, you're almost ripping out the spine of your system. After all, its not just about the video games this time around!
Another fun function is the Xbox live Arcade, where you may download many different things. It works a lot like the Nintendo Wii's download function, you go and buy points at a store where you may turn them in on your console to redeem and download media. With the Xbox 360 it gets even more in-depth, you can download more then just games now, there are also feature length movies, themes, games, extra game content, and even TV shows available for download! The software the Xbox 360 uses is very creative. The "Dashboard" has five "blades", each of which are unique for a certain thing. From left to right they are the Marketplace Blade (Red), Xbox Live Blade (Orange), Main Game Blade (Green), Media (Blue), and System Settings (Purple). Did you play the original Xbox through 2001 up until 2005? Save some of your games! There is a certain list of games out there that can be played on the Xbox 360, however some of the games aren't playable yet, Microsoft is working on making the Playback feature a lot stronger. Your Xbox 360 choices are spilt into 4 different prices as to what your interested in, ranging from the $200s up to the $500s, and even then you might want to pick up some games to play on it...right? I recommend to buy a Xbox 360 if you are centered on Media, and not just games.

Playstation 3
The system's interface and media works a lot like the Sony PSP if you've looked into that at all. A lot like the Xbox 360, each part is split up into different sections for games, music, photos, videos, settings, and connecting to Online functions. The Playstation 3 is a very powerful system, which can playback games from way back when on the Playstation 1! Compelling exclusive games are still few and far between. The games are still to be pushed out of the factories and are not quite out into the open yet. Very few have been yet to be released, but then again, they always say all in good time. The Playstation 3 is a high definition system, and has crystal clear visuals, a lot like the Xbox 360's. Another punch is the price, you are looking at burning a hole right though your pockets, at the price of $589-$599.99! The good news is Sony cut the price down to $400! Some say its worth it, others say its a waste. Another bad flaw is there isn't a infrared port for wireless universal remotes to work. The Playstation 3 works a lot like the Xbox 360, this little puppy is for anyone interested in media in general. The great thing about this system is the free online play, although fees are subject to change for particular games that developers feel to charge a cost for. The system can link up with the Sony PSP, and the media is in high definition, playing on here will tempt you to never play old games again, the visuals are just too good!

This was really helpful for determining what to get my kids. Also helped me pick up the right terminology so that I could commmunicate not only with the "end user" but also with the sales person at the store. Thanks for the article !
