The Next-gen Gaming Competition

Which video game system is right for which person? Find out what's right for who here.

Video games are somewhat of a serious topic to me. I love gaming and have been part of that community for about 5 years, and by now I have realized two things.

  • If you aren't a gamer, you don't appreciate video games.
  • If you aren't a gamer and you want to buy a game or console for someone, you will have no clue what to buy.

I would like to help you make a system choice which won't kill anyone's fun.

PC: Thousands of games and almost every family has one. Only problem is, most computers don't have the right components to play games with good graphics or lots of content. This is good for everyone since all types of games come out for it, but if you want some really good/good-looking games you'll have to shell out the extra cash for computer upgrades.

Nintendo Wii: Serious gamers over the age of 8 don't really tend to go for nintendo stuff. They gear their games for families so I assure you that they have very few mature games released for the system. I do admit that this system is great for parties and fitness if that's your thing, but not that great graphics and limited online play doesn't go to well for older kids. I used to have this system but sold it because I'm thirteen and I kind of passed the age limit.

Xbox 360: This is the system I own now so I'll probably be a little bit biased against other systems, but I'll stay as truthful as possible. This is great for teen to mature gamers because of the great variety of games and online play. The good part is most system packages come with headphones so you can be physically harassed online until you prove your worth (or you just take the headphones out). Bad part is the expenses. Online play is not free and costs quite a bit of money if you don't subscribe for it. You also need to buy "points" instead of just putting money on your account if you want games, movies, tv shows and more. Last thing is the hd drive. Most people know that this is a dead format, but you can buy hd movies from the Xbox live marketplace if you really want high definition entertainment. One last little detail though: Xbox 360 comes with achievements, or points you unlock by doing certain things in a game. I won't go into detail, but this just about doubles or triples your game's life.

PS3:The PS3 is a great all around system that feature a good variety of games, and okay online play. The PS3 and Xbox 360 have many of the same games and are therefore compared by system specific games. PS3 has games targeted for a bit younger audiences that are still really great. Xbox 360's system specific games are geared towards older audiences. The PS3 does have free online play though, and a blu-ray disc player, the preffered hd format. Games cost about the same as Xbox 360 and most have online play. The online play is good but very few people have mics which ruins just a little bit of the fun. I'm not sure about the PS3 store but from what I've seen and heard it seems pretty good.

Thank you for reading about the consoles, I will let you decide which console is right for who. I will probably write about the best games for people next time.

Thanks for reading.
