The Best Next Generation Console

Which is the best next-gen console?

Many people have been arguing over the much asked question: Which next gen console is the best? Many different gaming magazines have their own opinion on which is their most favorite console. All of the consoles have their pros and their cons which make them suitable for the player which will be playing it. For example, the wii's almost perfect motion sensor capability is best fit for the kind of player who likes to use hands on activities and/or wants a miniature workout with their gaming time. Also, the wide selection of wii games that are already on the market, as well as the new wii games that will be coming out is great for the gamers who get bored of the same old game after a while. These of course are a few of the pros the wii has to offer.

And of course with pros comes cons for the wii. The probably biggest complaint about the wii is the half decent graphics it provides. Seeing that the console's selling price is a mere $250, the graphics are well suited for the price, including the cost it takes to incorporate motion sensing. Nintendo though could raise the graphics to 720p or higher with only a slight money raise it will take to do so. To have the 720p or higher, the wii will most likely cost $400-$500, but I am willing to pay that for gaming console that provides great graphics and motion sensing. Well that's it for the wii, and now to the PS3. The playstation 3 is probably, in my opinion, the worst out of the 3 next gen consoles. The PS3 provides a blue-ray DVD player, as well as amazing graphics if u have an HDTV. And of course there is the wireless, semi-motion sensing controller, but these are basically the only pros about the PS3. There are many cons about the PS3 but ill only talk about the few main ones. To start off ill rant about the high price, even with the price drop. At its start, the PS3's 80gb console sold for over $700 which is absurd for a gaming console. Of course I wouldn't be complaining if it had full motion sensing, with great graphics and amazing online play for that price, but too bad it doesn't have that. After the price drop, it went down all the way to $500, a more reasonable price, but still high for what it provides. Another downfall of the PS3 is the terrible online game play. The online play for Call of Duty 4 laggs up so much that when I play Call of Duty 4, I shoot someone with 2 full clips of my P90 and he still doesn't die. Also for any other shooting game this happeneds to me, but I have had some good luck with the music games like Guitar Hero 3, and Rock Band.

I have also found that while playing sports games such as Madden 08, right before the play is about to happen, the game would lagg up and sometimes freeze. The PS3 is the most expensive system with the worst online play and is the laggiest console of the 3. Now time for the Xbox 360, which won the GamePro Editors choice award for best console. So far playing the Xbox 360 I have found only 3 flaws; the red ring of death, the problems with Xbox Live during updates and just randomly, and the disk malfunction (“The disk is unreadable”). So far I have had the Xbox 360 for than a year and a half and I haven't gotten the red ring of death yet (Knock on wood). A few of my friends have gotten it but got their Xbox back within 2 weeks of sending it in. Even though the red ring is terrible, Microsoft makes their hardest attempt to get it back to you quick and easy. Another one of the 3 flaws I've found is the rarely laggy online service when updates come out and when its holiday season. For example, this past "07 Christmas, Xbox Live service was lagging with all of its games supported by Live for almost 2 weeks. Also when an update for a certain game comes out, so many people are trying to play that game that it overloads the servers of the game and makes it very laggy.

The other one flaw is the disk malfunction. Sometimes while playing a few of my games, the game would freeze and the Xbox would say “The disk is unreadable” and would go to the Guide menu. This could be easily fixed by restarting the console or cleaning the disk. The pros for the 360 though are its main points. The Xbox Live service is unbelievable reliable and is the best online service out at the moment. Even though members have to pay money to play online with the Xbox, the service Microsoft gives is nothing compared to the PS3 or wii. The 360 has hundreds of amazing and fun arcade games which can"t compare to the downloadable games for the PS3 or wii. Also, the downloadable content is nothing compared to its competitors. The Xbox 360 offers many movies for download via the Live marketplace, as well as many games, and backgrounds, and gamer pictures. The graphics for the 360 are almost as good as the PS3 as said by many people but in my opinion, the 360 has just as good graphics with HD as the PS3 has with HD. Also with a comfortable price of $350 which is only $100 more than the wii. Even though it's more expensive than the wii it provides much better graphics than the wii as well as the best online service for any console.

Also to end my praise of the Xbox 360, the accessories that it can provide are remarkable. All the way from wireless headsets, to hard drives, to memory cards, to battery packs, to wireless controllers, to cables and adaptors, to faceplates and skins, and finally to cooling systems. All of these categories has many accessories to accommodate each of them and will keep producing to keep the 360 an amazing console. In conclusion, The PS3 is the worst of the 3 next gen consoles, next comes the wii, and finally the best next gen console obviously is the Microsoft Xbox 360.
