Super Smash Bros. Link Move Guide

Shows all of Link's A, B, and Z moves. In depth FAQ of how to use each move and how good it is.

“A” Move Guide

A = Link slashes with a small delay dealing moderate damage. Rating = 2 of 5.

Dash A = Link slightly lunges forward and slashes, average delay, good damage. Rating = 3 of 5.

Smash Side A = Link lunges forward to slash and deals high damage dependent on the charge time. Delay is average. After the slash, pressing side A again within a second of the first will cause a link smash attack in which the second hit deals more damage. Rating = 4 of 5

Smash Up A = Link does 2 consecutive slashes covering 180 degrees above him for high damage. Delay is average. Rating = 3 of 5

Up A = Link does a quick slash covering 180 degrees above him for average damage. Delay is good. Rating = 3 of 5.

Smash Down A = Link does 2 consecutive slashes on the ground, one on each side of him dealing good damage. Delay is average. Rating = 3 of 5.

Down A = Link does a quick slash in front of him for average damage. Delay is good. Rating = 2 of 5

A > A > A…. = Link will quickly and continuously stab as long as you continue to press A. Low damage. Rating = 2 of 5

Mid Air Back A = Link will do a quick kick for low damage. Rating = 2 of 5

Mid Air Forward A = Link will do a quick slash for moderate damage. Rating = 3 of 5.

Mid Air Down A = Link will thrust his sword underneath him and it will stay there for about 3 seconds as he descends on an opponent to deal high damage. Long recovery time. Rating = 3 of 5

Mid Air Up A = Link will jut his sword upwards and deal moderate to high damage. May also hit enemies below by random chance. Sword stays up for several seconds. Rating = 4 of 5

“B” Move Guide

B = A powerful arrow that goes a long distance and may also pierce Ness's B shield. Does 18% damage at full charge which takes approximately 3 seconds. Rating = 5 of 5

Down B = Link pulls out a bomb in a second that isn't very effective alone, but is best used if timed right in conjunction with other weapons. Such as taking shooting an arrow, then throwing the bomb, then boomerang in succession. Rating = 3 of 5

Up B = Link rapidly spins in a circle several times and hits any nearby foes. Definitely Link's signature move, this provides large knockback to other players sending them flying. When used it mid air, it propels link upwards. However, it is vulnerable to attacks from directly above, or below and has a long delay time. Rating = 4 of 5

Side B = Link throws a boomerang that does moderate damage. The boomerang may be thrown again as soon as it comes back and can be angled up or down. It also goes quite far making it a good projectile to fend off approaching players. Rating = 5 of 5

Throw Guide

Z = Link shoots a hook shot with range about 1.5 to 2 times as much range as his sword which grabs on to the enemy. Delay is bad. Rating = 3 of 5.

Z then Up = After grabbing, pressing up will cause link to throw up his opponent and slash them while they are in the air. Probably Link's best throw, it works well with a quick Mid Air Up A following it. Rating = 4 of 5.

Z then Down = Link throws his opponent on the floor, nothing special. Rating = 2 of 5.

Z then Forward = Link kicks his opponent off of his hook shot, nothing special. Rating = 2 of 5.

Z then Back = Link turns around and slashes the enemy off of his hook shot, more damage and knock back than Z then Forward, but again, nothing special.
