CHRONO TRIGGER
Chrono Trigger is definitely the best RPG that ever existed. Created by SquareSoft, It uses a combat system similar to other RPG's in which you choose what you want each character to do. However, it has a few changes which makes it superior and different to other games. The best thing about the game is the storyline in which the main hero, Crono, discovers a gate which allows him to time-travel between different time periods and change the past and future and eventually save the world. Crono even dies during the game and the other characters have to go back in time to revive him.
Different characters join and leave during the game, each with their own special abilities, you get all of the characters back near the end of the game. The game has many side-quests each with their own rewards, these involve warping back and forth between time to make the world a better place. Besides the side-quests there are many endings you can get, depending on which time you chose to beat the final boss and whether you took a certain character or not. Chrono Trigger is a must-play for any RPG fan and is a RPG classic.
CYBERNATOR
Assault Suits Valken or Cybernator is a Scrolling shooting game from the Assault Suits series and is one of the best I have ever seen. The main character is Jake, a soldier in the Pacific States' Marine corporation, Jake operates a 4-story tall mech (or robot). You have to go through a series of different missions and complete different tasks such as destroying a battle-ship, raiding an enemy base or simply escaping to your ship. Besides Jake, there are two other mechs and your own mothership, but they dont help you during the game at all. You wont need their help anyway, since you get different weapons and power-ups to make your mech stronger.
The sound-effects are amazing and makes you feel like everything is happening for real, different events also happen throughout the story which makes it even more fun. The Actual game, Assault Suits Valken was released in Japan and its English version is called Cybernator, the english version has most of the dialoges cut out so the only way to play the game with all the dialoges is to apply an english patch to the japanese rom and play it on an emulator (Roms are illegal unless you own the game). Cybernator is a first-class Shooter and possibly the best for the SNES.
FIRE EMBLEM
Everyone must know about the Fire Emblem Games for the GBA. But the Fire Emblem series actually started with the original Fire Emblem for the NES, then came Fire emblem: Gaiden, also for the NES. Then there were three FE games for the SNES, Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem (FE3), Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy war (FE4) and Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 (FE5). All of these games were released in Japan and never made it outside, Translation patches are available for these games through. Many players agree that FE4 and FE5 are the best in the series. These two games have great music and a superb storyline, no other game has a story as good these two.
For those who dont know about Fire Emblem, It is a strategy RPG in which you command an army of different character and defeat the enemy consisting mostly of generic opponents, your characters become stronger as the game progresses and your army becomes bigger and stronger. Actually, the main storyline is from FE4 and FE5 is a sequel which takes place during the events of FE4. Obtaining a cartridge is hard but you may get lucky in your search, many players prefer to patch the ROM of the game and play it in english. You will still need a cartridge to legally download the ROM.
DER LANGRISSER
Der langrisser is a Tactical RPG made by masaya. Der langrisser was only officially released in Japan, The only game of its series released outside Japan is "Warsong". In Der Langrisser you have to command an army comprising of soldiers and commanders(which are also the characters of the game). The thing that makes Der Langrisser so great is that you get to choose your own path and get four different endings. You can either join the good guys, the empire, the bad guys or stay independent. The gameplay is also another thing that makes the game different.
Since its a japanese game, getting a cartridge will be hard, but its such a great game that its worth the effort. How come all the good games are in Japan?
Other good SNES games are Secret of Mana, Harvest Moon, Super Mario world and the Final Fantasy Games .I highly recommend that you get your hands on a SNES and play at least one of the games mentioned above.
