xBox 360 became one of the top-selling gaming consoles after its release in late 2005, while Sony and Nintendo are still waiting to publish Wii and PS3. However, right now xBox360 doesn’t seem to be as popular as before, and already lost Wii and became the second best selling console. Here are some reasons why.
Failure of HD DVD
Microsoft purposely let all the XBOX360 HD DVD buyers lost $170, because they know that HD DVD won't win Blue-ray disc and they still support it before Toshiba totally abandoned it this year because Blue-ray is made by Sony.
Comparison with Wii and PS3
Compare to PS3, the price of PS3 40G is almost the same as XBOX360, however, it uses Blue-ray disc which can also watch DVD, free online playing (I know XBOXLIVE is better but a year membership is same as a PS3 game) and most important of all, it doesn't have the Ring of Death(read 4). Other the other hand, it's much expensive than Wii, in other words, Microsoft wants to win and gain at the same time.
Misuse of Release Date
XBOX360 was released in December of 2005 while other next-generation consoles was released in late 2006, Microsoft could possibly put HD DVD into XBOX360 which could let XBOX360 watch both HD DVD and DVD movies instead of only DVD movies and have a bigger inventory to store games, but most important of all, stop HD DVD from loosing the competition with Blue-ray disc.
Ring of Death
What's the biggest problem with XBOX360 right now? The Ring of Death, the thing that stops the console from working, although Microsoft extended the Warranty to 3 years and is releasing 65nm GPU “Jasper” this August, however, it will take months for Microsoft to receive your console and fix it and send your back, Jasper also won't stop “The Ring of Death” but will only reduce the chance.
Price of the Games
I know the games are expensive because DVD isn't made by Microsoft, however, compare to PS3's blue-ray games, they are the same price, however, a blank Blue-ray disc is almost three times expensive as a DVD and…….Microsoft is really a money lover.
