Pros and Cons of the Ps3 and Xbox 360

Pros and cons of the two consoles and which one you should consider buying depending on what type of person you are.

Cant decide if you should get a PS3 or Xbox 360? Well then read on, I will be talking about the pros and cons of the two consoles and then comparing them at the end to help people choose which one to buy depending on what kind of person you and what you like in a console...

Overheating

Overheating is quite a huge problem with the Xbox 360 and Microsoft have notified this by making an extended warranty just for this problem, most people have nicknamed it "The red ring of death" because once u get it 3 red rings flash on the front where the green ring would be if u was playing it. One of the best things to do to prevent this is to buy a electronic fan that will fit onto the back of the Xbox, there is a way to fix your Xbox yourself when u get this by putting a damp towel around your Xbox covering the air ducts and then leave it for an hour then turn it of and take the towel off for a few hours although this only works for a few people so you are better off sending it into Microsoft. The PS3 has already got a fan on the inside so you shouldn't have to worry too much about it overheating but it is still possible if u leave it on too much or the fan is blocked or broken.

Online

The Xbox has a much better online system (Xbox Live) for communications, games and downloading and is much easier and simpler than the Playstation Network, you can invite your friends easily and simply by pressing the Xbox button on the control and then going to friends and then invite whereas on the PS3 you would have to send someone a message telling them to come onto the game you are playing witch would require exiting the game to get to send them the message, you then have to go back to the game to wait for them... The PS3 however had a function that the Xbox doesn't have, an internet browser witch allows you to go to practically any website within certain restrictions (Only Flash player 7 or below sites, no java and flash games that require keyboard presses are unusable) Although the Xbox has better online capabilities it is not free like the Playstation network is so online capabilities are both completely different on both consoles but Xbox Live is recommended.

Price

Xbox currently has the best prices on pretty much every product you can get for it compared to the PS3, the games are usually about £10 cheaper than the PS3 allowing you to buy more, the headsets are allot cheaper and effective than the wireless Bluetooth ones that the Playstation uses... The controllers are both basically the same price which is bout £20-£30, the Xbox itself is about £120 cheaper (Xbox - £200, PS3 - £320) The downloadable games however, are about 7 pounds cheaper than most of the ones u buy on Xbox Live.

Games

For the moment there are allot of games for the Xbox and not so many for the PS3 although allot of people are buying the PS3 for the exclusives it has such as the ever popular Metal Gear Solid games and the new and very popular Little Big Planet, the Xbox also has some excellent exclusives such as Gears of war and possibly the most popular game series Halo. The downloadable games are quite fun on both the consoles and easy to download but a little annoying that on the PS3 you cannot download a demo for most of the games but good that there are some completely free full games on there such as the Grand Turismo HD Concept, but there aren't many free downloadable maps for multiplayer on the PS3 whereas the Xbox has got loads of maps for games like such as Gears of war...

Memory

The PS3 is very good if u want a big hard drive as you can get a 20 GB ps3 and then Swap the hard drive out for one that is as big as 120 GB for a price of about £60 by buying a Seagate Hard Drive and then swapping them over, the Xbox can come with no hard drive, 40 Gab, 60 GB or even 120 GB but is overpriced on the 120 GB as it probably only costs them as much it does for the Playstation 120 GB. Even with the 20 GB Playstation you've got enough space for basically anything and you don't really need anymore unless u do something like add another OS such as Fedora Core onto it and have to allot 10 GB to it. The Xbox hard drive however seems to run out pretty quick.

Xbox 360 Pros

  • Online abilities are excellent and easy to use for even a child
  • Allot of Great games to choose from
  • Easy to set up and use

Xbox 360 Cons

  • Overheating from over use is an extreme problem and has happened to many unsuspecting customers
  • Xbox live is not free
  • Downloadable games are expensive an you have to pay to change your Gamer tag

PS3 Pros

  • Playstation Network is completely free to play online
  • easy to swap over the hard drives
  • Ability to use another OS such as Linux

Ps3 Cons

  • Not many games to choose from so far
  • Playstation Network hasten got much features and is hard to use
  • Very hard to change over to Linux and requires a bit of spending

Over all the Xbox is allot easier to use and has excellent online capabilities but is quite expensive at times, The PS3 is quite hard to use and understand at times but the online is free but still rough around the edges for the moment... I'd suggest buying an Xbox if u want Ease of use and want to do things in-game or the PS3 if u don't want to fill in too much contact information and want to just play online for free.
