The playstation came out almost the same time as the Nintendo 64, as competition. The Playstation was one of the first consoles to use Compact Disks instead of the more popular cartridges. They looked like a large, gray box, and it was pretty heavy. Later, the came up with the Psone, same functionalities, but way smaller lighter. The graphics where not good compared to the N64(short name for Nintendo 64). They where all blocky, while some games, like Mario kart, where superb. And unlike cartridges, there's loading times, and you have to wait some time so they can load.
But unlike the N64, they where able to play compact disks, the ones that play music. There where some great games on the playstation, such as metal gear solid, the prequel to metal gear solid 2, and the sequel to metal gear solid 3. After a while, the sony company came up with the great new Playstation 2( or PS2 for short), a large black box, lighter than the original Psone. Then, both Nintendo and Microsoft launched competition, the Gamecube on behalf of Nintendo, and the Xbox from Microsoft. This time, Nintendo use disks, but the cube wasn't as much success as the PS2 or Xbox. The graphics were detailed, very good graphics, as well as the Xbox. The PS2 is able to play DVDs and CD-ROMs right out of the box. So was the Xbox, but u had to buy a separate remote to use this function.
Unfortunately, the game cubes game Cds' where small, so DVDs couldn't fit in the player. Later in the years, Sony came out with a slimmer and lighter system. And most recently, the PS3 has come out, with high def pictures, built in memory(20 or 60 gigs!!!), and some cool looking games.
