Patapon for PSP: A Review

This is a review of Patapon, the new hit for the PSP.

The strange people at Sony studio Japan have brought yet another unique game to our PlayStation Portables, Patapon. In this visually similar game to LocoRoco, you control a growing army of strange one eyed creatures. Each creature has a specific role in battle i.e. Archers, and can be equipped with weapons and armor you earn throughout the game.

You assume the role of the almighty Patapon god, and thus control your little "pata-warriors". You do so with the face buttons of the PSP, each one assigned to a beat and word i.e. Pata or Pon. In four beat rhythms you will command your army to "Attack" and various other commands such as changing the weather. Once your beat reaches a certain combo level you will go into "Fever which grants many bonuses to your army.

While your Primary goal is to reach Earth-End to see "it" you will find yourself busy with mini-games to earn extract loot, and hunting to gain rare items to create stronger troops. Earning rare items will allow you to create more powerful units back at the camp menu. The main story includes a handful of unique bosses and battles with the Zigatonians, who seem very unfriendly towards your advances.

Patapon offers a great mix of RPG and music elements that are blended perfect for the PSP. While the game offers many levels and re-playable boss battles, I found myself going back to hunt and battle a boss time and time again just so I could advance through the game. Collecting items to better improve you army can become very addicting and is done well with a wide variety of things to obtain.

Packed with over 20 hours of game time, a great experience is waiting for you to play, and with a low price of only 19.99 it's also a great game for you budget gamers! Enjoy, Pata-pata.

I saw your link on PSU. Not a bad review, good attractive sentences and structure, but I think you should go into more detail about the game rather than saying "buy it!" or "Go slit your wrists it's so bad" Personally I liked the game a lot but it was a bit repetitive to me and some of the heavier RTS elements made things difficult because I can't do split second reactions.
