Okami is very unique PS2 game. It is an action adventure game where the player takes on the role of a white wolf: a disguise of Sun Goddess Amaterasu in Medieval Japan. Playing a 'wolf' is what usually turns the people who hear a rave for the first time. Who would want to play an animal? What makes this game original is the combat system.
What else could a wolf do but growl and slash with it's claws? Well, Okami is highly original and unique. Celestial brush powers are given to the player. The player controls time and space with the brush, learning techniques such as restoring things that are missing and putting the sun in the sky. There are 13 brush techniques to master and puzzle games throughout, where these techniques become amazing and clever.
The storyline is of medieval Japan becoming 'diseased' by demons and the job of the player is to restore the lands and their diseased patches.
At first, there is painful dialogue which last for 10 or so minutes with a made-up language. This made me put the game down. The next time I forced myself to endure it and I wasn't dissapointed once I got immersed into the game!
Okami is a game that leaves you breathless and feeling a sense of achievement once you've restored the diseased land. The music is phenominal in establishing this mood. Once you restore a patch of land, the landscape blossoms and the controller vibrates which leaves you astounded at how visually stunning the scene is.
Okami is ingenious and one of the gems for the PS2 recommended for all ages!
