Playstation 3
PS3 is the most expensive of all of the next generation systems. It has arguably the best gaming quality although the X-box 360 owners will swear their systems are equally as good. In theory it is the leader of the pack in terms of quality. It's once downfall is the lack of games, or better stated amazing games. It has very few titles to itself that really stand out and sell the system to you, although one arises here and there. Some of the greatest games meant solely for the PS3 include Resistance: The Fall of Man and Unreal Tournament 3. This system has the same great controller setup that made the PS2 so great, making it's games easier to really get into. The online for this system is once again also free and it has a steady flow of gamers online for each of it's titles. This system is also the most expensive of the next generation consoles because it comes built inside a blu-ray player. Surely it isn't the greatest quality player but buying a blu-ray player (even the cheaper ones) can get to a price range of $1000. This makes any adult whose kid owns one of these very, very happy. This system overall is meant for the hardcore gamer who plans on using the system a lot. Obviously it isn't for gamers on a budget as the games go for $60 a pop. This system is also not designed for the child gamer as 80% of the games coming out on it have a rating of T with an outrageous amount of gaming receiving the Mature (M) rating.
Overall Grade: A
Nintendo Wii
This is the system bringing smiles to the faces of gamers ages 6-600. It specializes in being the most diverse system as it's controller set-up as well as its style of game-play is much different of that than it's competition. As you might have read elsewhere the Wii remote has a motion sensor inside of it so it can detect movements which correspond with action on the screen. The Wii also comes with a sensor bar you can place at the top or bottom of your TV in order for it to know where you are pointing the end of the Wii Remote. This makes fun shooting games a blast for all ages and really gets you into the game. The Wii is not the system for hardcore older games looking for intense battle scenes as well as all the blood and gore found in the games of the other consoles. It is however the perfect system for any gamer who wants the most fun he/she has ever had shooting a plunger at a rabbit. The game-play is mostly comprised of mini-games and or intense use of motion sensors to make game-play more fun.
This is the casual gamer's system for the next generation. It doesn't have state-of-the-art graphics but what it does have is endless laughs and a good time. It has online capabilities which Nintendo has promised to expand in 2008 and you can buy classic Nintendo games directly on the system using a credit card. This is the cheapest next generation system and is perfect for families on some sort of a budget. It also provides the most fun for young gamers as many of the title such as Mario Galaxy receive the E rating. Although these games don't receive the M rating it doesn't mean gamers ages 16+ can't have a blast playing them. Overall this is the perfect system for casual gaming families, kids, college roommates and more who want a great time, anytime.
Overall Grade: A
XBox 360
The final next generation system is the X-Box 360, the keeper of the legendary game Halo 3. This system has the greatest online, the greatest games, and the greatest amount of people picking up one and playing it each day. It isn't the most expensive system, but it doesn't have a blu-ray player either. It has the best selection of games out so far for any hardcore gamer, especially those who are a fan of a good shooter. Games like Gears Of War and Call of Duty 4 lead the pack as the best multiplayer games out yet so the online for this console in surpassed by none.
This is the perfect system for those who don't really care about the blu-ray system and want to have great games to play. Most of the games on this system are rated T or M so this is not a good system for younger gamers. This system is recommended for older gamers who love the adrenaline rush given by intense racing or shooting games. This really is the ultimate gaming console in terms of great games with endless thrills. Gaming magazines such as Game Informer give 9s and 10s to more XBox 360 games than any other console. Overall this system is meant for audiences alike the PS3, although the games currently out are better and its online (although you are forced to pay) is exponentially better
Overall Grade: A++
Picking the right game system comes down to many factors: the types of games you want, how much money you are willing to spend, the online capabilities, and more. Now good luck in picking the best console for your situation.
