Surf's Up! A Review of Gameboy Advance

Here's what Gameboy fans can expect

A Gameboy Advance game based on the movie "Surf's Up!" doesn't actually follow much that happens in the movie. This game is solely based around surfboarding, but even that doesn't keep it from wiping out.

Unlike the movie which had a series of events in the video game all you do is surf. The concept of surfing in this game is really that of a race with the ability to do some tricks. If you are in the top 3 at the end of the race the next stage unlocks and so forth. If you feel it is too easy you can always change the game's difficulty.

The graphics in this game are just average. They aren't 3-D but they aren't that bad either. Put it this way you can tell which character you're playing. The water though and the background of where you're surfing is quite dull though. The colors aren't great and the graphics of the background and water are really mostly 2-D.

In this game you can play mini games that you unlocked. At the begging there is only one but as you win more surf offs more mini games are unlocked. The mini games themselves aren't really that great and I only play them as a time killer or to see what I unlocked.

There are many things that you can unlock in this game by surfing. In freestyle mode, if you win you can unlock different surf boards for your character to use which adds on to your own style. In Race mode you can unlock special characters such as Geek. You can also unlock new mini games even though though they aren't that great.

Overall the video game based on the movie "Surf's Up!" is nothing like the movie. Its general surfboarding gimmick doesn't make up for the lack of story and doesn't improve on the overall game. In my opinion if a bit more effort was put in to this game it could have turned out great, unfortunately though, it hasn't.
